Old phone to make Mirrorlink work?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon all,

Firstly, I am sorry if this topic is “worn out” but was just clutching at one last straw...... I bought a 2015 SEL Fabia and the Bolero unit has Mirrorlink, but of course my phone ( Samsung S8) doesn’t support it. I have seen a lot of threads essentially saying Mirrorlink is pretty much defunct.

My question is, are there any older Android phones still capable of running Mirrorlink in 2021 ( just to use as Sat Nav). @pab567kindly looked into my unit ( pic attached) and know it isn’t capable of any more updates. So, before buying a new unit with Smartlink I was wondering if an older phone could do the trick?

Thank you!

MirrorLink has been abandoned by most of car and phones manufacturers. As this is your new car then I assume you will be using it for some time so I do recommend to rather change the unit than buying an old phone.

Why not just install Sat Nav on your existing phone and use some type of dash mount, there are plenty of good free apps such as CoPilot that work without data if the phone has GPS built in.

Hi Keith,

Yep, looks like this is the way it will go - just wanted to have a nice big screen with sat nav to feel part of the modern world!

Thanks 😊

Thanks for your previous advice @pab567 re: alternative units - you gave me some model numbers to look at in another post. Any good ideas where to look to buy one from?

eBay... if you are interested pls contact me on PM

Hi Raycross I have had Skoda Fabia SEL from April 2015 finding a phone that works with Mirrorlink was almost impossible. I did find one but getting it to link to the Bolero radio was very hit and miss and the phone could not be charged while Mirrorlink was running. In about June of that year they upgraded the system for users of Android and IPad and I was told there was no update for earlier owners.  I did manage to get a free standing Garmin satnav out of Skoda. There was a lot of unhappy early owners who were lumbered with Mirrorlink you should read some of the early posts on this site.

Use your phone with a suitable holder Joe
