After having the car for 5 years , which I've never been able to use the armrest as it covers the hand brake making it impossible to apply.

 

So I'm wondering if it is the wrong one, it's approx 10 inch long, has anyone got a shorter one , say 5-6 inches?

Don't think it's wrong our MK3 which was from a dealership is exactly the same we only use the rest on long trips as you say to difficult to apply handbrake, iI think if you have the electric handbrake system it's fine as you only press a button , we keep ours flipped up most of the time for every day use

Murdockman, Thanks for that, I'm going remove it.

They can make using the handbrake a little tricker, but not impossible... I believe they are standard fitment soon the elegance and on Fabia 3 models, among others. I had to buy and fit mine and they often sell for around £50 on the'Bay. I would just leave it up or pop it in the garage/shed/attic until I sell the car, then offer it to the new owner as a sweeter or even an extra for a few more quid!

Mrgf thanks for the comment, I'll remove it as I've said and put it in the attic.

 

I've since looked on eBay and there are some that look shorter and say they'll fit. 

 

I might try one, but in the time will use duck tape to cover the hole left.

Can you not get the cover for the hole? I can have a look at my car in the morning to find a part number for the piece.

Looks like a nicer job than the standard bin. Best of luck with it.

Make sure it retro-fits the older Fabia, though. They most likely have the same aperture ut I wouldn't bet my house on it! 

 

 

Edit... Just looked at these, they seem to go into one of the two cup holders where Skoda (ETC) Have a double larger circle hole, with a smaller central hole, not the hole where the armrest would go. That usually has a rectangular, sunk-in pot, with either a screw or clips, to retain it. (I think its a screw).

Oh well , returning the one I bought as small, it 70x96 and headrest aperture is 96x119.

 

I'll put the useless headrest back
