My wife and I came down out local bypass rather quickly today, only a couple of miles and then home.

When we got home and on the drive the car smelt hot and bothered but the wheel hubs were cool.

I assume then that the dsg clutches did not like 60-70mph, this does seem unlikely though.

Highly unlikely to be the clutches if all is well with the DSG. 

 

If the smell is from the DSG best find out why.

?

So what engine has the car and how many miles has the car done from new. 

Brakes do not 'Driven in',

which is what used to be known as 'Run in', as do tyres, suspension, engine etc.

 

PS

The DSG will be fine with the car going at the max speed it can do and there should be no smell coming from the DSG even when a DQ200 7 speed Twin Dry Clutch one.

It is a 1.5 Kamiq Monte Carlo Dsg low milage, in fact hardly any milage at all.

I will check the underside for bbq road kill tomorrow.

It could be the GPF (PPF / OPF).

They regen.

 

If not noticeable now be aware of it as you might notice later on.

It is a 1.5 petrol with dsg.

So being a 1.5tsi it has a GPF.  They got them before the WLPT /RDE was introduced.  (As did 1.0tsi )

I had no idea that petrol cars had a regen!

I get the impression you don't do many long journeys are journeys at dual carriageway speeds etc?

 

Another factor is that the car is new and if it's the first real time it's fully warmed up and everything has got hot then the new chemicals and coatings etc have burnt off slightly and also contributed to the smell.

 

The DSG clutches are more than capable of coping with higher speeds. I can drive at max speed on the Autobahn and they'll be fine.

 

If anything it's slower speed where you are most likely to experience clutch slip and therefore clutch smell. Driving at a steady speed the clutch is fully engaged but slow speed manouvernig or start-stop the clutch is often partially engaged.

I have got the smell of the clutch slip when putting the car into reverse (DSG gearbox) and trying to reverse onto my driveway quickly, this is because the reverse gear takes time to properly engage and when in a rush it is easy to get cracking on the accelerator before the gear (clutch) is engaged.

 

Net result no movement initially followed rapid backwards movement and the nasty smell.

 

Not a criticism of the car more my driving technique (and lack of patience).
