Front passenger air bag

Featured Replies

Somewhere on this site I read about annoying warning lights in the overhead panel. It made me check up on the annoying warning lights I have. One light that is always on is something to do with the curtesy lights but the other light was telling me that the front passenger air bag was disabled. It seems that the F.P. airbag has been disabled since I received the new car 6 months ago.  Why on earth should the F.P.airbag  have been disabled before delivery?  I am very grateful to the person who made the post that drew my attention to these warning lights. I would probably not have looked up what the lights meant if not.

Mines was exactly the same mate off upon delivery took me a month to realise and switch it on! Guessing that’s something missed on the vehicles PDI

To be clear guys, does the light need to be ON or OFF for the airbag to be active?

Thanks

Light needs to be off there shouldn’t be any airbag light up near the interior lighting

If you mean that the airbag light is not always on, perhaps only for 30 seconds after moving off then I think that may be normal, my Yeti did it and when it went out I realised that it must be part of the self test & that I am not usually looking at the middle of the dash when driving away, I am blind in one eye so have a narrower field of vision, when I am focussing ahead I would not notice the small light extinguish in my peripheral vision.

A bit more to it than that. If the F.P. airbag is disabled, one of the overhead warning lights stays on all the time and the meaning of the light is not obvious. If the F.P. airbag is enabled,  two warning lights come on for about 30 seconds and then both go off. Actually, it's more complicated than that. The best thing to do is to open the F.P. door wide and check the disable switch on the A pillar. Here the OFF/ON position is clear. You need the skeleton key in the key fob to operate the switch. I hope this is not a common problem.

Thanks guys! It happened to me as well, I realized about it today after a couple of weeks driving...

Just got my Octavia Wagon iV last week. I noticed the next day the passenger airbag off yellow light was always on.

As others have suggested in this thread, check if it has been manually disabled. See extract from user manual below. If the arrow is pointing to "ON", you should have it checked.

Mine was also turned off when I got a new car (not an Octavia though)

Subsequently discovered one of the safety systems were also turned off in the infotainment (go into car, settings, click on each row in turn and select what you like by ticking boxes), keep doing it scrolling down whole list (you only have to do it once even though might take 10 minutes)

I would have thought it was better to have everything turned on upon delivery, and let user disable, than than discover many weeks or months later some are not active.

While I do not have a problem with the bag being disabled I would like to understand how to use this feature.

My manual contains the same text as shown above.

I have looked at the car and I cannot see where the key switch is.

Can someone post a photo that would help me?

Inside the glove box.

No photo needed.

Not in my glove box.

See, I said that a photo would not help you 😆

Guessing now, if its not there then somewhere on or in the centre console?

On the glovebox of a RHD vehicle its tucked up to the top right on the front return edge of the frame and not really visible to the driver from the drivers seat, but that could be because I am blind in the left eye.

I don't see it anywhere in this picture.

Nor in the A pillar, as suggested earlier in this thread.
