Karoq 1.5TSI PF

Featured Replies

I was looking on the TPS site for the recommended engine oil for my 2018 Karoc 1.5TSI DSG.  After entering the reg no. I was faced with two choices :

Sorry pressed wrong key !  From the attached picture can anyone tell me what PF stands for in the selection on the RHS ?

The recommended oil for the LHS model is 5w-40, which is what the dealer says they used on the first 2 services.  For the the RHS model the recommendation is 0W-20 - quite a marked difference so I am keen to know what the PF means on the model on RHS.

What were the choices.

Did they show VW504 00 / 507 00 for an early car.   5w30 FS III

VW 508 00 / 509 00    0w 20 FS IV for a later one?

EDIT.

VW 502 00  so 5w 40 FS  is not long life oil and could be used for fixed services, not flexible / variable service intervals.

This is for Variable / Flexible Servicing.

See what they say about emissions with the VW504 rather than VW508 which VW / Skoda went to for the WLTP / RDE.

(VW 502 00 is not shown as they do not want to.)

Some Dealerships have been using 0w 30 FS III   instead of 0w 20 FS IV,  VW508 00 / 509 00

never heard of any using 'non long life oil'  on 1.5 TSI's  which the 5w 40 FS will be.

PF could be particulate filter - are they fitted to petrol cars ?

non-long life (fixed servicing intervals) oil seems to be  recommended if you do less than 25 miles a day which is definitely me.

They are fitted to Petrol Engines in Skoda from 2018.

So that is what TPS is showing.

?

Which Dealership used 5w 40 for the first 2 services.    Main Dealerships usually use Long Life oil for Fixed or Long Life Services.

Parks Hamilton claimed that they could not use VW 502 00 / 5w 40 FS for Servicing and then for a offer they were doing used exactly that.

Dealership was Allams in Epsom.  I queried the grade at both 1st and 2nd service but was told 5w-40 on both occasions.  I know VAG cars do burn oil more than most so assumed this was the reason a thicker oil was used.  Doing short journeys I would have preferred a thinner oil to help fuel economy.

Faulty TSI's like Euro 5 emission ones burn oil.

They do not all.

Using 5w 40 FS helped some that had oil users.

The 1.5TSI will be fine with 5w 40 FS but no way needs it to reduce oil use, if it did it would be a gubbed engine.

The 5w 30 FS III so VW504 00 / 507 00  was changed with the GPF's being fitted and the WLTP being introduced to assist in getting the low emissions VW needed under testing.

My 2019 1.5TSI has just had the second annual oil change at the official Skoda service facility. Both times it got Castrol Pro 5W40 oil. I think it was the Magnatec line, which is supposed to better cling to the metal surfaces while at rest (for more effective lubrication in the first seconds the engine is started), but isn't recommended for variable service intervals.

Your car is fitted with a particulate filter (GPFs were compulsory after June 2018 iirc), so your dealer may be using a totally unsuitable oil.

Castrol pro 5w40 oils are 502.00 ACEA A3/B4 spec

1.5tsi with GPF calls for a 508.00 oil with low SAPS, 504.00 oils with a low SAPS may also be suitable (as a top up, not sure about service fill) I note that 502.00 is not listed as suitable in the owners manual (2019/11 build)

Even the castrol oil selector shows only their LL4 508.00 and LL3 504.00 oils are suitable.

I took delivery of my 1.5TSI end November 2018.  I wonder if it missed the GPF requirement ?  I do remember signing a waiver that I would purchase the car despite any adverse results on emissions tests (and any consequent change in the road fund licence cost) that were being carried out a couple of months or so before I bought the car.  I haven't seen any particulate filter warning light illuminating despite my low mileage.  I'll check if I have such a light next time I turn on the ignition.

You'll be able to check from the engine code/serial no, you may find this on your V5 registration document or on recent skoda service documentation.

DADA = no GPF fitted

DPCA  = GPF fitted

Xman,  Thanks for being specific.  V5 shows engine pre-fix no. is DADA.  This ties in with 1. No GPF light on the dash and 2. the dealership using 5W-40 grade for the service oil change.

Thank you for the tip, xman. I'll investigate and discuss the issue with the Skoda representative.

It's funny though, that the manual redirects the user to the specialist garage to learn what the correct engine oil specification for their vehicle is.
I wonder if, in this situation, the car owner could object to the specialist's choice of oil without jeopardizing the warranty.

Mine is a DADA as well (MY19).
Does that make the 5W40 oil suitable?

According to the TPS website, the non-PF option suggests 5W40 oil.

My 1.0 DSG Karoq, bought end July 2019 from new, has engine serial number beginning in DKRF, according to the V5, but maybe that's because it's not a 1.5. I assume it has a particle filter.

@DBSurrey, option is the correct term.  Owners can have the option of using oil to the VW 502 00 spec when the TSI,s are on Fixed oil and filter service intervals.    For the terms of the Manufacturer's Warranty they speak of the use of the correct fluids then fail to clearly specify clearly what the correct oils are.    Since the WLTP & RDE was introduced and GPF,s they make it look like only Long Life oil can be used even for Fixed Servicing.   Someone should ask Skoda UK to check with the Technical Department if it is the case that only Long Life oil can be used.   If they say yes then they are causing issues for Main Dealers that have not been using it.    For TDI,s it has to be to VW 507 00 or VW 509 00 for fixed or variable service intervals.         Someone might like to find out the cost of a main dealership replacing a GPF.  That is something they seem unwilling to discus.

Too much smoke and mirrors for my liking.  This and the lack of specifying the oil grade and VW spec in the owners manual seems underhand.
