  • You're ok that cat is alive... it is a car. I'll fill in more details on the EV6 vs Enyaq thread, but we have an EV6 on order. 👍

  • I didn’t bother driving the ID3 as the looks put me off a tad. However the Born drive wasn’t in any way bad. The last time I drove a RWD car was when I had a 5 Series and ideally I’d prefer FWD/4

  • I await a motoring journalist driving an EV when the weather is really really hot & just keeping the AC off and cooking / sweating inside the car and finding out that really the AC on is not reduc

Fully charged and Autogefuhl have also covered the launch. Looks a bit odd, slightly remodelled ID.3 IMO.

If it handles well I’ll have one, because the id3 was horrific on our test drive but otherwise decent range/price in the LR version

The UK buying public might be interested in which EV in the UK is best on 60 mph speed limit roads at cornering with 4 adults and luggage in  the boot while being able to stay on it's own side of the road.

Right hand drive ones that you need to use a left hand on.

Medium sized surely like a Golf / Leon so how does that then become a Small EV?  Fiat 500 / VW e-Up! are Small EV's.

Best get an order in toute suite then. The Zwickau factory is flat out.

No 70+kW battery only the 58 😞

Daily Telegraph review on Cupra EV "OUTSIDE OF Porsche the BEST ,HANDLING &PERFORMANCE" EV

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/seat/cupra-born-77kwh-review-outside-porsche-best-handling-performance/

Having owned Leon Cupra, and at the same time has Octy VRS, I hope the Cupra EV has not achieved good handling by extra hard suspension as the Leon Cupra did as after weeks and months of ownership the hard ride of the Leon Cupra just became tiresome and the Octy VRS the preferred car as it was just more pleasant to drive the 99% of the time even though the Cupra looked much better which I think it does in the SEAT form compared to the VW form of the ID3.  If SEAT have done it by clever adaptable suspension then great.  This is where expended test drives are worth getting so one judges not just on a test drive of an hour or two but some leisurely drives as well.

I agree with Fully charged also it is not enough power to stand out when there are so many quite old and plain EVs with 200 hp, needs a bit more ie and extra 10 or 20% more power to really have something to shout about.

Some more choices to consider.

As you've been keen on keeping up to date with the award-winning CUPRA Born, we want you to have the opportunity to order the 58kWh 204PS model at the pre-April price of only £33,735*.

Order from 22 March and before it goes on sale nationwide on 1 April at £34,715, for a saving of £980. And, depending on which trim you choose, you can save up to £2,445^.

ev or transit van or keep the superb… dam my mind. :)

it’s a distraction from scrolling and feeling totally powerless.

how a few weeks changes the world.

an old quote, whymper… remember a moments negligence can destroy the happiness of a lifetime.

so true for so many moments in our lives.

As i was starting to read this on here the video popped up on my phone so i will take that as a message to try one.

The range at motorway speeds in an empty car on winter tyres with the temperature above freezing really is not enough for winter travel in Scotland IMO.

Even doing an average 50mph in cold Scottish winter weather it will need charging too often.

If using only 50 kW max chargers if that is all that is available the charging is too slow if you are in the Highlands with a max 45 minute charge time.

Yep that’s what I am thinking. North of Manchester not many above 50.

meganne e tech,  might be a good alt from the few videos I’ve seen.

was just told though, the batteries for this, and I guess by proxy other vag, are in Ukraine. So certainly for the born, manufacturing is paused. I can still place a deposit though ;) I’ll wait thanks.

If he bothered to check the tyre pressures cold and set at a pressure for the conditions & put the interior heating to 18*oC as i do the range might have  improved.  (But i am comfortable at 18*oC, others might not be.)

Little changes make important differences when trying to get places.

Arriving at chargers charging slow or blocked by EV's parked on chargers for hours is a PITA.

Today at 6*oC i got 4 miles to the kWh going just 25 miles to the coast but only 3.1 miles kWh on the return journey.

Last week at over 10*oC that was 4.5 miles going and 4 coming home, same speed and time taken each time.

Miles covered and time is all fine with the car and phone app but the phone app has gone all wrong / optimistic with the estimate on range available.

I only have a 45 kWh usable battery and at 4 miles per kWh that would be 180 miles.

3.1 miles would be 139.5.

(That is unless an over the air update that had 3,000 miles off the cars actual miles covered since new has allowed more usable battery in the calculations.

Something to do with Stellantis saying the new models perform better or more efficiently, but i doubt that and it will just be a brain /IT fart.)

'Worst Rate ever' charging is an issue when it is your quite often what you get charging rate.

  • john999boy changed the title to Cupra Born

I went out for a test drive in a Born (VZ3) today and was extremely impressed with it.

Granted the steering wheel controls were a bit awkward and took some understanding but the AR heads-up display was very bright and clear (the photo doesn't really do it justice).

Even though the car had 20" wheels, the ride wasn't at all bad either.

Some photos.

They are electric but you have to press the 'Rear' button to alternate the button's operation.

Now that's a new one on me. Never heard it before.

The VW ID cars have that feature too. Some see it as penny pinching, others (like me) see it as less clutter. I don't find it a problem in my car (ID.4).

In my mind I'd see it as more expensive since it has to have a wee thing to change between the front and back window regulators.

Over 330 miles from the 77 kW battery is fantastic if you get that,  that is about 4.3 miles per kWh.

If he has actually driven 330 miles from full and had some range left then great.

If just quoting Official WLTP & 'may get up to 335 mile range' then shut that door!

Did I miss the 77 coming to the UK as if it did, that makes it very interesting again.

I'm about to compare EV6 and Enyaq for a final time, but a 77 born, would throw that all into question.

@john999boy have you driven the ID3 and the born? I ask as the ID3 was horrible due to floppy suspension and poor control of the throttle that made it like a switch. If the born fixes these two then things get a bit more interesting if the lease or finance prices are right.
