Skoda Karoq First Impressions

Featured Replies

Hi, I've just bought a pre reg Skoda Karoq SE-L 1.5 Manual in Quartz Grey with 10 miles on the clock from Mitchell Skoda, and thought I'd give you my first impressions after owning it for 5 days.

First the Dealers where very helpful when selling the car, reasonably good part ex price, unaccompanied test drive, 3/4 tank of petrol, bunch of flowers for the missus, car prepared OK. How they will be for servicing and repairs I'll have to wait and see.

The car drives very smooth and quiet.

The infotainment system is a bit of a mishmash but basically it's OK.

Updating the maps over the air is a bit meh, but my previous 2 cars where Fords and their Sync mapping system updating is very hit and miss although you do it with a USB pen after downloading form the Ford site, it is just the updates are very irregular, I will miss the speed camera warning as I think this is not available on the Skoda.

The car itself is MY202, build date 03-12 2020, and is fitted with 18" Braga wheels, not he 19" Crater wheels (suits me) also the car came with a 18" space saver spare wheel ( far better than a tyre inflation kit)

Mitchells Skoda had about 5 pre reg Karoq in all with around £4000 discount off brochure prices, most fitted with 19" Crater wheels so there must be a lot hanging around in Skoda UK's parking lot.

Lastly has any bought any parts accessories etc from Superskoda now that we have left the EU, do they get held up in HM Customs and do you have to pay duty on them?

.

I'd be inclined to suck it and see.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules any more. Anecdotally some peeps have waited yonks for stuff to rock up and have had to pay duty; others - like me - haven't had any trouble at all.

Don't read the online reviews. A lot of disgruntled punters think Superskoda are an absolute shower and would never use them again, but I'd have no hesitation myself.

I haven't had to wait longer than six or seven days for anything, but I might be lucky.

My gut feeling would probably be not to commit to anything very big or very expensive; otherwise give it a bash, but keep your expectations dialled back a bit and don't start tearing your hair out if nothing happens within the first few days...

Importing anything from anywhere has become more awkward post WrecksIt, if the exporter will deal with a UK buyer at all.

Welcome to the club. You’ll love the car. Quartz grey looks great especially when polished

If your car was built 03-12 2020, then it is a MY21 car, as the model year runs from around August to July. :)

There are two issues at play here:

1) Kopacek (new name for Superskoda) will only ship to the UK using post not couriers, so there is a size and weight limit.

2) post-Brexit HMRC apply the value test whether to seek customs duty and VAT.

So small low value items it's the same as before, small high value items you will have to pay duty & VAT, large items Kopacek won't ship to the UK.

Many thanks to all who have responded, but I have now hit my first problem, the Auto Hold appears to have stopped working, it was working the day before yesterday, any ideas' is there a fuse for this? the parking brake works OK. Have I inadvertently changed some setting maybe?

TIA

You're dead right! I'd just sussed it out when I came back in and saw your post. I noticed it was illuminated when I went out this morning and somehow had it in my had that when illuminated it was off.

A real Doh! moment, the joys of new cars and technology, many thanks.

I've had a few moments my self, slowly getting round the tech bits though some bits do drive me mad like having to reset aircare, driving mode, every time you start the car.
