GPF fitted?

Featured Replies

How easy to check if one is fitted to a vrs 245? I'm planning on getting it remapped, so need to be sure before doing anything to the car.

Any recommendations for the remap in South Wales? I've had a couple from Shark in the past, Revo an obvious choice, but there may be others?

When was the car manufactured?

If you’ve had maps from shark then racingline will be the obvious choice as Ben who used to own shark is now at racingline.

Yes that would be one to consider, but I'd prefer to go somewhere more local.

A quick google suggests petrol particulate filters were introduced to the VW group from September 2018 so it seems likely yours would have it.

Surely it is only a problem if the tuner says it is.

I would have thought a remap would make the filter more effective by running hotter?

I asked the question specifically of the seller, and they are certain it's not fitted. The issue is restricted flow, even in standard tune, most of the VAG models are 5bhp lower in specs post GPF intro.

You won't notice any on the road performance difference with 5bhp less.

The issue for the ECU is that the sensor data will be likely be different, so different tables etc. I'm guessing most new car models have a 3 sigma of +/- 2-3$ around stated nominal, so 5bhp will bypass the bum dyno easily

Any reputable tuner will be able to tell you if the car has one fitted and make alterations to suit. However I wouldnt map your car as it is still in warranty and would raise the TD1 flag. Unless you can affors to fix it yourself, generally it will void any engine claim or gearbox claim. I would wait till it is out if warranty and then do it.

Thanks, though this will be the 5th VAG car I've remapped, everyone of them in warranty, 4 still in original manufacturer's.

This will be the 4th that I've asked permission of both the relevant brand technical and financial team to do it, as the first I bought outright with cash. Hopefully it won't be the second with turbo failure, though that was replaced under warranty because I'd followed the above procedure. You're right though, if you can't afford to replace the broken parts, don't do it. However, the most important consideration if its a financed vehicle that you don't violate your contract, so ask them first, otherwise the bill could be much larger than just the cost if parts. Read the breach of contract clauses etc etc

Some OPF engines dropped the second set of MPI injectors because with the OPF the port injectors were not strictly necessary to meet emissions targets any more . It is not as much of a power problem at first but the port injectors keep the ports clear of carbon deposits.

Dual injected cars have not needed walnut treatment and are a bit easier to tune (MPI retrofits are offered for a reason)

Depends how far you are tuning it and how long you plan to keep the car. If I had the choice I would go for the pre-OPF car for a few reasons, all of mine are.
