Seat Belts

Featured Replies

Have found lately that the seat belts are not rolling back up quickly enough when people get out of the car. This has led to damage to paint around the door area when they have been closed. What is the best to use (grease or WD 40) and is it just a case of taking off the side panels to access the belts.

Any opinions.......Thanks in advance

Eddie

wd 40 on the inside of the belt roll it up and down

Will try that very soon......before I get more little dents in the paintwork

No need to use WD40, use Back to Black both sides and the top plastic. Your seatbelts will zip like lightning!

Take off the covers and remove all the fluff that collects on the underside of the metal guide bar, thats what stops it and its also why there is a note in the owners handbook to periodically clean them.

i would not try to lubricate any part of a seatbeat assembly , they are a bit of a precision bit of kit that probably wouldn't take too kindly to being lubed with anything , don't forget they are there to save your life and that of your passengers . see if the belt is wet by pulling it out fully ,this sometimes causes slow return , if it is wet ,attempt to dry and find where water getting in vehicle (door seals) and repair leaks , the only other solution i could suggest is to renew the belts if they are really bad at returning ,hope that helps

As Lummox suggested will try a good cleaning. But should I still lubricate them in any way or just leave them?

Well if you put anything on them its only going to end up on your clothes.
