Ours is Just on 145,000km now and is booked in at the Garage next week.

We have an annoying rattle/raspy sound that sounds like a failed pulley bearing or similar. Could be coming from the water pump but it's hard to tell. Can hear at idle, gets worse from 1,200rpm and dissapears after 2000rpm.

The water pump also "whistles" at idle when the engine is fully warmed up.

Will see what they find.

If you can DIY, the water pump is super easy.  Probably the easiest of all VAG engines.  I had the same sound when my water pump was going out, it then failed.  Luckily I had trained my wife to stop the car if anything goes wrong and it didn't over heat.  Super easy fix.  I can post the ElsaWin instructions if you want.

To be honest I'm just gonna let the garage deal with it. As much as I love to do work myself and the savings I've had some work getting an Audi TT back on the road.

And also currently in the process of renovating our house and fitting a new kitchen next week. So don't have the time/energy for it unfortunately.

Totally understand.  Its about an hour to two hour job, so don't pay too much for labour.  The pump is cheap too, probably no more than 50 quid.

Already replaced twice that dammed pump and now it's started sounding again since 1-2 months...

Don't know what the silly hell happens with those pumps really, going for 3rd replacement in a 7-8 years distance...

As per sayings, when engine gets warm enough and on dry weather it would whistle.

Last part is still under 24m warranty from Skoda,so it'll all  be sorted.
