Like most things in life the more banging it gets the looser it becomes! :P

love it :P

is there no special greese that keeps the rubber rubbery that can help,

this seems to be getting worse!

Tade in the car every six weeks for a new 'un. :D

you can get rubber treatment stuff that is meant to stop it from cracking with age. Not sure if it will work or make any difference!!

Dont know if you can still get it, but I still have a bottle full of 'Son Of A Gun' in my garage, it swells up old rubber by nourishing it and replacing whatever dries up in it, works a treat at reviving old rubber stuff including door seals.

:rubchin: Wondering what's in "Son of a gun"...?

They normally use talcom powder on rubber generally, presumbably to "block the pores" and so to stop the natural oils from drying out.

Grease on rubber doesn't sound right to me at all, though I know nothing of course.

You could just become paranoid like the rest of us when people insist on slamming your car doors

It's not so much the seal but the rubber bung on trailing edge of door....probably at the bottom.....I believe it is this that gives the "thunk".

Change it....wouldn't have thought they'd be that expensive.....if you're so inclined. ;)

I'm not sure you can even buy it anymore but the closest I can find on the internet is a site that lists the chemicals included in houshold products, and they list 'Son Of A Gun 1 step tyre dressing' mine is an old bottle that is simply called 'Son Of A Gun'but i'd imagine it's similar, anyway the chemicals in it are -

Isobutane

Diethylene glycol ethyl ether

Polydimethylsiloxanes (Silicon oil)

Alcohols, C12-14-secondary, ethoxylated

None of that means anything to me but i'm sure there are some chemically minded peeps that may shed some light on it?

Its made by STP by the way.

I'll have to Google forever, unless some kind person comes to the rescue...

Meanwhile L-Y-K, it would seem that we're all watching this space :)
