It's clear you want a rag top so lots of the suggestions above are out.Don't blame you.I miss roof off blasts.

Nothing an angle grinder, a couple of bit of bent pipe and some canvas couldn't sort :D I saw it done on the tele the other day

Was weird, my dad told me last night one of his mates (who we go biking with) bought a Fabia vRS on ebay the other day. So after noticing yours was listed I asked what colour...-black. Any other stuff done to it...-yeah lowered/bigger wheels/chip etc. Then I pretty much realised it was yours.

Small world!! All I can say is I hope he drives it faster than he can pedal his bike

(Sorry for spamming the thread :o)

Yup, the only car which is really an alternative to the MR2, and on budget, is the MX5. Supposedly a better drive, probably more practical, but I'd take the MR2 myself.

Hi

I think the MR2 and MX5 are more a different drive as opposed to either being better. The MX5 is a more traditional device, simple front engine rear wheel drive layout makes it easy to drive fast and nicely balanced handling keeps it entertaining. The MR2 on the other hand is not as easy to drive fast and is quite different in the way it behaves. The mid engined layout gives very fast and easy direction changes, but the car will punish clumsy input where the MX5 will smooth it out and flatter the driver. Get it wrong in the MR2 and it will get scrappy. Get it right and it rewards hugely.

I think that if you want a fun 2 seater ragtop, these are the only two practical and reasonably affordable cars to run. The MX5 gives you a grin and rewards with easy fluid handling and approachable limits, combined with an average engine. The MR2 on the other hand has limits that are harder to approach without considerable skill and practice, but those limits are higher. The engine is both more flexible and a sweeter spinning number as well.

The MR2 was my choice because it is less easy, more challenging and just so involving to drive. Every aspect of grip and balance are fed back to the driver. You can elect just how much grip to apportion each corner with delicate use of the throttle and steering and you can be on the power so early and hard in a corner it is almost unreal. I find every journey in it is via the twistiest route, just for the fun of immersing oneself in the challenge and reward of driving it well. Of the two the MR2 comes closer to the Elise experience, but you get Toyota reliability and servicing costs, air con and an interior. I think it is a little quicker round a track as well if you do that sort of thing.

I reckon both cars are ecellent, but it was the MR2 that has got me addicted.
