Engine System 136B

Featured Replies

First of all hello everyone.

My car has a startup problem recently.

I have to do about 15 to 20 cycles for the cold engine to start,

Of course with a very intense smell of petrol,

and I have to keep my foot on the pedal for a while.

Once it works, there is no problem until the next day.

As far as I can see with the vcsd the problem may be with the temperature sensor.

Does this sensor affect the engine not starting?

Yes, not least because the engine temperature sensor controls the cold start enrichment on an injection engine. This sounds like the mixture is overenriched on a cold start, but not quite to the point of soaking the spark plugs and preventing any actual spark.

new spark plugs
new spark plug cable
new distributor
"all 1 year"
So where else should I look for errors?
Ignition coil
flywheel sensor
charge dynamo

Well, you can either follow the VCDS and my earlier diagnosis and explanation, or you can start throwing parts and money at the car. Your call.

Thank you my friend,

I could not understand from a wrong translation.
I will do what you say now.
I'll change the sensor first, act according to the result

VAG-COM showed clearly what the problem is. The coolant temperature is an important factor in setting the air/fuel mixture ratio. In your case the mixture is too rich.

New temperature sensor arrived.

The problem went away as expected.

Thanks for your help
