Deadlocked drivers door! Advice please!

Featured Replies

Afternoon all.

My drivers door lock is deadlocked and I can't open it from inside or out. I've tried the banging suggestion around the lock barrel, but it makes no difference... What's the best way to get it open...? I don't mind if I've got to butcher the door card to sort it!

Thanks in advance 👍

I do believe that you are firmly attached to a plane surface by an helical inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder. You do in fact have to butcher the door card.

no need to butcher the door card.

it can be removed tactfully and gracefully as can can the lock mech without smashing it

deans guide is probably the best one done thus far on getting in there

I had my passenger's door dead locked in my LHD Octavia a week ago. I followed that guide and accompanied by my mechanic, we removed the card without a scratch.

Then my mechanic, uses a chisel and a hammer to break apart the the old lock and replace her with a new one.

We tried it. Both of us. No joy, thus the drastic measures.

its just about patience, and using 2 narrow torx/allen keys one to rotate the big cog, one to prevent spring back.

It didn’t work for me either. I’m an engineer by trade and am competent on the tools. I’ve also been in the motor trade - working on and around cars - for longer than I care to remember.

I cut the mechanism open to gain access to the plastic gear, but had no success in it releasing the deadlock. I tried several times...  The only option was to break the lock assembly apart so I could get to the latch, and then finally open the door.

Fortunately I had a spare lock mechanism that I’d previously bought for a Mk4 Golf - but never used.  The general consensus of opinion was that the Golf item - whilst looking and being mechanically the same - wasn’t compatible, due to differences within the electrical side of things.  However - and to my delight, in this instance it worked absolutely fine and all is now well.

Thank you to everyone on here and everywhere else for the help and advice.  Most appreciated 👍🏽
