best tyres to reduce noise

best tyres to reduce noise and stay on the road?

if theres an existing thread on this please could someone point me to it?

otherwise please advise me what are the best tyres for my octy vrs estate ?

the current standard issue bridgestones seem to have a hell of a lot of rumble in them, or is this normal for this car?

and how else can it be reduced - by altering the tyre pressures?

any ideas welcomed

Goodyear GSD3`s commonly known as F1`s...very quiet and very sticky

Phil

Would have to disagree....to a degree...with you Phil.

GSD3 are very noisey on certain surfaces...motorway concrete being one of them...something to do with the directional tread....in my experience.

I find Pirelli PZero Rossos are just as good grip wise and quieter over a greater range of road surfaces.

More expensive of course.

I find Michalin Pilot Exalto very quiet compared to the MXM that my car came with.

Dunlop SP Sport 2000 are very noisy on some road surfaces.

I had Goodyear F1's on a car about 5 years ago. I found them to be very noisy.

I agree with DGW on the SP Sport 2000's - my Octavia came with these and they were very noisy.

My current Kuhmo KU31's are reasonably quiet though.

 F1`s....GSD2`s or GSD3`s chaps......the later 3 used different compounds to reduce road noise;)

Personal preference anyhow, as well as leading motor mags still rating them the best:P

Phil P.S Try pirreli nero`s

I have run GSD3s on my 18'' alloys for over a year....put back on my standard 17'' alloys with the Rossos.

Grip and feel are pretty much the same but the noise is the greatest difference......that said would buy them again.

I may try something different next time though...for comparison sake....was thinKing Bridgstone RE050 or the PP RE030.

Had the same noise problem with the Bridgestone's (Turanza's I think) on my Vrs estate and after a lot of looking around and various sales speak from local garages I decided to go for a set of 4 BF Goodridge G-Force Profilers. I was a bit apprehensive as BF Goodridge seem more popular in the 4x4 area but so far they've done the trick, much quieter, better grip and with a nice looking tread pattern, let’s just see how long they last.

OEM tyres on Mk1 changed from bridgestone to Michelin Premacy. Like chalk and cheese for noise and ride. I gues it's true Michelin is in the Premier League, and the best the rest can do is the first division!!. Have always fitted Michelin as replacements and never been dissapointed. The price differential is not so great now as it used to be.
