Lit up like a Christmas tree

Featured Replies

Hi, travelling on holiday today and moments before arriving at our destination we had the dreaded bong from the dash!

the following lights came on;

Brake system

Power steering (although only half the little wheel icon lit)

ASR /ABS light

Lamp failure

Tyre pressure warning

All a bit alarming but the car was running perfectly and chanced the last mile or so.

went back to car after leaving it stood a while and now lights are out.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, what was the cure?

many thanks

Could be as simple as a failing battery.

Cascade of lights from (usually) failed rear ABS Sensor.

Happened to me.

Quite a lot here and on YOC from others who have had same experience.  Problem occurs in other VAG models.

AA checked fault codes at Mway Services,  said brakes OK to drive until fixed - just no ABS. (phonecall to dealer confirmed safety issue).

Worth reviewing your own fault codes first though, just to confirm.

You may find that lights go out, only to come back on subsequently but then go out again on the way to the dealer to fix!

Give it a brake test, if ABS does not cut in then you can be sure its a fault in that system, probably a wheel sensor.

Then you can make an informed decision whether to carry on driving or seek a repair, only you can decide that.

typo, had written "cuts in"

Is the alternator working correctly?

I would have thought it would be opposite to that.

..these are exactly the same 5 warning lights that came on mine a couple of weeks ago.

I had just replaced the battery and thought that had caused it somehow. Turned out it was just one of the wheel sensors. They cost about £30 and £60 to fit ('ish). You need an ODB reader to find out which wheel.

There is 1 sensor per wheel, and if one fails the electrics assume one wheel is not turning so it effects all of the above lights.

(The sensors are just a magnet inserted into the wheel that count the "splines" as the wheels go round....)

At least I hope that's your problem.  (Mine did go off after I turned off the ignition, but then would come back on. NB I was advised that it was perfectly safe to drive until the sensor was replaced....)

lol...the reason you "think" only half the power steering light comes on is because part of the light is hidden behind the speedo centre "button"... :)

Correct, a typo, I will go back and edit it, thanks for pointing it out!

Yep, same thing happened to me earlier this year. Failed rear ABS sensor. Not sure if ABS would have worked correctly for me in an emergency but driving the car home (I was enroute on a long journey) I just took it easy until the sensor was replaced.

As previously reported, had this problem a couple of years ago, rear o/s, managed to take the caliper and disc off, ran some roughish wet and dry over the castellated sensors, cleaned up the plug socket with switch cleaner and vaseline, remounted it all, and no subsequent problems,  ---   maybe I was just lucky!!!

Hi,

Yep, just like that!

Hopefully getting it in to local dealer today for sorting 👍

Thank you very much for all your replies.

I’m hoping to get it in to the local dealer today for fixing.

Once again a great forum for answers!

...mine was also the offside rear sensor...perhaps just a 1 in 4 coincidence?

I thought perhaps cos i'm a la frog more cr*p thrown up as its the french n/s  ---   who knows?

My 2 cents worth : my Yeti dispalyed similar lights on the dash and it was the wheel speed sensor (rear left)

Update on the ‘problem’,

Lights didn’t come at all yesterday and confidence was returning.

Went out today for a trip, lights not on at start.

After around 30miles on they came.

Heading back to the holiday home it started playing up with intermittent

response from the throttle.

Got worse and worse until had to pull over in bus lay-by

Called the AA and after 4 hours sitting in a smelly bus shelter waved bye bye to the car aboard a trailer with suspected software fault.

Taking it to the nearest dealer able to look at it.

This dealer is some miles away and hopefully sort it before next Monday.

SWMBO not impressed so I reckon my 10 years of Yetidom may be coming to an abrupt end!

Think we’ll go for something with a longer warranty next 🤨

Update part 2

Yeti towed for 60 miles to Barnstable Skoda, AA guy had to fit their free wheeling hubs and wheel kits to rear to prevent damage to the Haldex system. Had great service from Marshalls Skoda and was back on the road a couple of days later. As thought, it was the n/s rear wheel motion sensor playing up and they fitted new and did a few software updates. The strange thing is no one seems to have had the complete lack of power I experienced accompanying the sensor failure, I suppose it was 'limp home' mode?

Anyway all in all an unforgettable experience😣

....pleased your all sorted. When mine went I did experience a couple of "wobbly" moments (jerky / low power),when pulling off for the first time after start up. I put this down to the system "sorting itself out"?.......always settled down after a few seconds though and never gave any problems while driving other than the warning lights...?

Hi Andyspan, good to hear it's sorted and I feel a warm happy glow for your Yeti :)
