IHI Ibiza

Featured Replies

I take it there are not many 300+ WHP 1.8t's around ?

I have just spotted a 02 Ibiza forsale for <

except for the 1.8T VAG 425 BHP Clio ;)

There's quite a few around.

Badger Bill has had his for quite some time. Last year his was around 360bhp & it's very quick - overtaking GT3's at certain track days!

There a 330ish bhp one for sale on Seatcupra.net just now.

I bet he has problems getting a decent power reading without spinning on the rollers ;)

 What do these people spend to get that sort of power out of Clios and Ibizas??

On that note I'd be keen to know what Jason & Dave U have spent on theirs?

I often wonder that! There are some people with a LOT of spare cash. Good luck to them, though! It's good to see what can be done!

Stage 3 IHI conversion will set you back £5000.

That's circa 340bhp.

You could easily spend £10k on a £10k car.

You can buy a very nice used car "quick out of the box" car for that!

that blue ibiza's been up for sale quite a few times.

Wouldn't like to do an IHI conversion on a 1.8T personally . . . wouldn't like the thought of all that boost on an engine designed for half the power.

Big power IHI conversions like the GT** turbos have uprated internals.

Upto 300 bhp on std internals isnt a problem usually.

I'm running 340bhp on standard internals and clutch...no problems.

If you do traffic light racing and run at high revs all the time then...new clutch and internals...but for day to day it's perfectly fine.

Bearing this in mind,

Off thread but.......

What would a tech estimate a Fabia vRS could 'handle' bhp wise without having to upgrade internals...

a 'friend' of mine has one up to approx 200 bhp, without any upgrades on clutch etc. He tends to drive 'around' the clutch to minimise stress and wear, but has been known to splat it now and again.

he was just wondering.......

I'd say 250bhp... not heard of anyone in this country taking a PD engine above that, and I know of NOBODY to uprate internals... except clutches of course ;)

Torque is always going to be the limiting factor for clutches/transmission...particularly on diesels.

Your "mate" can drive round it or have his map tweaked to limit the torque but ulitmately uprated clutch is the way to go.

Internals wise....diesels are generally slow/low revving and I guess this may not put as much stress on engine.

*Note: all my usual disclaimers apply. ;)

But the standard engine (injectors etc ) could manage approx??

I ask because my 'friend' knows a man who has an engine from a golf tdi 150, would it fit??, and what differences are there between the Fabia vRS lump and the Golfs??

Ross reckons no more than 220bhp...IIRC....with a hybrid turbo that is.

Jabba have seen 200bhp with just mapping the PD130....lots of soot though. ;)

Engines themselves are pretty much identical, the differences lie in the FMIC and turbo.

Odd that!

When I went to quote you, your post read more than your posted post did??

My 'friends' mapped Fabia produces very little soot at approx 200 bhp(this can be verified)

But are the Golfs internals different?

The engine can be had cheaply...It's just a thought;)

It's just a thought;)

A thought not worth pondering over.

A thought not worth pondering over.

I don't tend to ponder..

I just do......

Anyway you are just a fat bloke with vw wheels,

what do you know??

I am in a good mood today btw, have you noticed??

They are BBS actually. :haha:

Mechanically, the actual engines themselves are identical... dont want you wasting time/money thats all. ;)

Fair comment:thumbup:

my friend had better start to alter his plan of attack then;)

(shuffles off to check bank balance, availability of tame mechanic, & to make sure W.O. is still tied up properly):D
