Potential new Octavia SEL iV owner but concerned

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I am about to order a new Octavia IV SEL estate so joined up on here. It would be my first Skoda and I was impressed with it compared to previous Toyotas and Fords (our favourite). As it’s BIK is low is ideal for me and there doesn’t seem to be another estate car which fits the bill and we can’t stand SUVs.
Anyway I’m concerned that the software issues I’ve read so much about may spoil the experience - but are they likely to be resolved by the time I get my car? I think it might be a long wait but I don’t mind for the right car but don’t want it to turn into a nightmare!

Hopefully I’ll be a happy new Skoda owner!

There is an update due soon so If you can hang on for a few weeks you’re likely get a more useful response. How soon is soon depends on your level of scepticism! I’m expecting another call from Skoda UK early next week - was told earlier this week they were awaiting confirmation from the factory re the final release.

The car is great to drive, spoiled by numerous software issues as you have no doubt read.

The loan car I am driving is fault free (1.0 eTec SE 1st Edition DSG Estate) over 3500+ miles.

My own car, 1.5 TSI SE L 1st Edition Estate, has a few niggles including the kph/mph issue - which is why it’s at the dealers for investigation & fix.

You made a great choice of colour BTW - same as mine 😊

Thanks. I think I’ll have to wait months for mine so hopefully it’s all sorted by the time I get it.

Do you have any nice pics of yours all polished up? I’m still not set on the colour but my wife loves it. I’m also thinking of the dark grey or the race blue but I think the race blue is a bit more common and the grey might be a bit dull.

This from the pictures thread…

Personally, I think that the Petrol Blue is a bit more conservative (staid?) and perhaps more sophisticated than the Race Blue. Having said that, if I was in my 30s (half my current age!) I’d probably go for Race Blue…

Hi mate im on SW 1803 and i haven't had any major probs. Ok sat nav doesnt remember anything , doesn't annoy me as i use android. The CLIMA sometimes reverts to auto and forgets my choice but apart from that better than the probs i had at the start.

On another note , i just leased a new Corsa for my daughter , Vauxhall's infotainment screen and menus are baffling, confused and no where as good as VAG ( when working).

The Octy is a real good car and these SW issues will be solved in the future, sure a lot of the SEL First edition guys had serious probs.

Have had 2 Skoda in petrol blue (still got one and that is 9 years old), how it looks does vary with light levels but I like it.

I think you may find the dark grey has been dropped for MY22 spec cars

(from memory, so might not be 100%)

non-metallic white or energy blue or corrida red

metalllic black, silver, moon white, petrol (lava) blue, race blue,

premium velvet red

dragon yellow-green is vRS only

Might be a bronze (seen pictures in that colour)

I share your thoughts as well.  I am still contemplating whether to book a vRS Estate/Combi but these ongoing software issues are a major concern as the last thing anyone needs is aggro from a new car.

Coupled to the above, delivery times quoted are about six months down the road, with no guarantee of a firmed up date.

I am coming from a '14 F21 320d Touring that has so far been good to me but I just can't stomach BMW's new design language outside and for their dial layout and the vRS ticks most of the boxes.  The drive experience was much better than expected - so much for many reviews stating that it is not that engaging.

Have a look at the thread I started 'The good, the (not so) bad and definitely not ugly Octavia iV Estate'. it's the best car I've ever driven, but the pleasure is spoilt by a problem with the satnav, which won't save favourites. I had a software update, which fixed it, but it failed again after four days and I lost all the stored favourites, as well as not being able to store new ones. It's in for investigation next Thursday and I'll report back in the aforementioned thread. All the problems seem to be software-related, so I assume they'll all be fixed by the time yours arrives.

I have had a look and have to say the problems people are left with seem fairly minor now. I will probably use my phone for sat nav anyway.

Looks like I need to get the car ordered ASAP!! Wonder if a car though a big lease company might come a bit quicker??

Big lease companies tend to get hefty discounts

If Skoda can’t build enough cars to satisfy consumers paying nearly full price, why would they want to offer the limited volume they can make at a lower price to a leaseCo and thus reduce what profit they could make.    Short term no point in trying to build market share as unable to increase volumes.

See the latest on the KPH/MPH thread post 10 hours or so ago. Still MASSIVE problems. My advice would be to leave off buying one for the time being. There are still way to many issues with it. Give a year or so until they have solved ALL of the issues. Just my my view of course but my time owning one was thoroughly miserable and stressful.

See the latest posts on the KPH/MPH. Definatley not minor problems!

Yes I understand that but I can’t see that it won’t be fixed 4-6months from now when I get mine!

I don’t really have many other options of a plug in estate, and I’d rather walk than have an SUV.

Fait enough. I thought I wouldn't have to wait long either! I would still be waiting now! The car will be superb WHEN everything is sorted.

Good luck if you choose to go ahead. The car offers so much.

Thanks.

FWIW we went to look at a Kuga as its another option and even as big Ford fans we really disliked it.

We love big estate cars! Wagons FTW.

Mind you even the Octavia isn’t as good at being an estate car compared to our 2nd car - see attached picture!!

I was given a brand new ford Kuga as a hire car by Skoda UK whilst mine went in for the mph/kmh fix as well as other issues.  It grew on me and in 3500 miles of driving it was quieter on the motorway and everything worked and not a single error message or freezing of the system.

It was a bit of an own goal by Skoda as I finally got fed up and rejected the car and bought a focus active x estate.  Whilst It doesn’t feel as classy inside, it all works with no errors, it has buttons for climate control and it remembers settings so no pre drive checks.  And the cup holders fit my insulated cups!

I think Skoda have made a really nice car mechanically, but spoiled it with poor software behind the infotainment system.  Maybe in two years time I’ll see if they’ve fixed the issues, but until such time I’ll stick with the Ford.

Good luck everyone.

My March registered vRS is not too bad. Don't use the factory satnav so only problems I have are the aircon not remembering settings and intermittent adaptive cruise refusing to overtake on the right.

Beaut of a second car there @MiniNinjaRob! I also share the love for estates, just so versatile (not long returned from a tip run with it full to the top).

Edit: ours is six weeks old, a couple of gremlins but now all sorted and fine
