USB/Apple car play stopped working

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2018 superb with Apple car play via a usb connection. Friday it worked fine until I stopped at a service station when I got back in the car it would not connect or charge the phone. When I got home I tried a different cable and that worked but when I tried again the next day nothing would connect . I’ve tried different cables and different devices but all the same. Now no devices will connect via a usb cable. Could it be the USB port has died and has anyone had experience of replacing the USB port?
the only thing I haven’t tried is replacing the fuse ? Any help much appreciated

Mine does this every now and then, try doing a reboot of the infotainment (hold the power button until it reboots) and also reboot the phone (usually volume up, volume down then hold the power button until the Apple logo appears). That usually fixes it for me

Tried both and neither work .

I’ve had a few occasions where a reboot of the infotainment unit was required.

Can you try a USB memory stick with some music on, to see if plugging that into the socket works? If it does, it is unlikely to be the wiring.

Have tried that no luck. I’ve looked at the fuse box and according to the web and the superb fuse box guide slot 9 is for the USB port. But there is no fuse in slot 9!! Any idea what fuse it should be? Be very random f it fell out.

Any fluff in the socket? Vacuum it out? Use the Magnifier on your iPhone (several quick presses of the on/off button) to inspect the socket for damage?

I doubt the USB port is going to have a dedicated fuse - USB power limiting/short-circuit protection is usually built into the USB controller itself. I can only think you maybe could get to the back of the Infotainment unit in the glove box to check that all the connections are seated okay, but they are usually latching so unlikely. Unless someone knows if there is a separate box for the USB functionality?

I’ve cleaned it out , I thought it may be fuse related as it was working then just stopped. It’s located in the pocket with flip up lid to the front of the gear stick. Guess it’s quite easy just to pop out?

Have you tried pulling fuse 12 (20A) to take the power away from the Infotainment system, leave it out for 10s and then plug in again? The front USB is certainly directly connected to the Infotainment unit. As well as de powering the Infotainment unit, pulling fuse 12 cuts the power to the USB (just tried it).
