LPG off to a bad start

Featured Replies

Typical.

A US lpg system and a UK tank.,... Yup, we have ourselves a mismatch between two essential connections - the US powershot & the valve that came with my lpg tank. NOw trying to source out an adaptor.

May not be working today after all then. :(

dont you just hate it when things like that happen. good luck on finding the stuff you need. what a pain in in the butt.

Mate them together with a bit of solder, copper pipe and gaffer tape!

Good luck finding an adaptor mate.

It's one of the reasons I'm gonna go to some fitter who's done it before (assuming I can get that insurance approval sorted, that's my current hurdle, it won't be going on unless I can get it insured).

Hope you get it sorted Jason, the link I sent you is to a fitter, perhaps they can source the parts for you in case you can't :)

No offence Tom but I won't be taking that advice (needs something "proper" to cope with the pressures of 200psi of the gas). At the moment the powershot system is in the bonnet secured to the strut brace. The T is in the boost pipework, after some pikey modding, and the fuel line is in to the bit of plastic air pipework after the airbox, and about 12" down to the turbo.

The tank is being secured as we speak. Due to my choice to have the powershot in the bonnet (mechanical choice, not just style/looks)- we also need about 5 metres of 6mm lagged copper pipe to run under the car as the stuff supplied with kit isn't good enough.

So the install is quite a bit the way there - might get the electrics in today, not sure. :)

Diesels run on LPG???

I dunno what theyre called doon sooth but those boys who come and fix yer JCB when it ****es hydraulic fluid all over the place.

Or somplace that does gas fork trucks?

Diesels run on LPG???

off topic, but no, not really.

Unlike a petrol with LPG, it doesnt switch and run solely on LPG. There is simply a small quantity of LPG injected to help burn all of the diesel instead of smoke pouring out of the back. Its a performance/clean thing rather than a money saving exercise.

Also improves the fuel economy on the diesel side actually (assuming the tuning isn't altered ;) ) by 6-12 mpg.

Not quite sure how much the LPG would cost in use though, but the fitting is about 1500 quid minimum if you get it done 3rd party ;)

Its costing me £450 materials, and whatever labour. (probably beer ;))

Afterwards I'll be off to an LPGA gas centre to get it certified, for my own peace of mind if nothing else.

Makes sense
