Skoda Felicia TC-6 trip computer

Featured Replies

As we say here ''better late than never" so i bought and installed something that i was looking for years.

I didn't bought it from the begging (the local Skoda seller was sell it as an ''extra") and when i asked some years later they answered me ''we have to make a special order, it's too difficult to be installed, does not worth it" etc and the discouraged me.

The years were passing but deep inside me i knew that one day i will take it, first searched in ebay and in Polish-Slovakian etc stores and finally i found a Czech brand the SP-EL which provide me with a new one.The price was a little bit high but in those countries 99% don't have credit card or paypal payment but bank transfer which cost a lot due to the commission.

The LCD screen is from a CZ brand, the plugs are VW-Audi and he sensor is from SP-EL.

They send me a genuine Skoda manual plus some pdf instructions, thank you guys !

In future posts i will show you some pictures from the installation (which was a nightmare) plus some photos while i am on the road.

I also searched on German even Russian stores but i had no success so the''refurbished" TC-6 from SP-EL wan the only solution, they offer a guarantee for their product.

Here are 2 videos from other guys, the task is difficult and must be done perfectly because removing the dashboard-switches etc isn't easy and you may brake something and regret it later.

My only concern is the average fuel consumption, i already have gauges for temperature-voltage etc.

Congratulations, good piece to have, I am looking  for it as well. I have seen only 3 here in Bulgaria. I knew about SP-EL for a couple of months but as you said the things they sell are a bit pricy and I am still looking at the junkyards... A while ago a guy told me something interesting - the computer is the same for the 1.3 and 1.6 (you can set it at the settings), but I am not sure about the 1.9.

please make intallation guide and share how and where you bought it

Some guys sell only the LCD screen without the cables-sensors so be careful.

They SP-EL have the TM-3 version for the 1.9D model.

Computer itself is indeed same, but sensors of injected fuel are different for BMM and MPI. In case of SP-EL sensor, there's even difference between 1.3 and 1.6 due to different polarity on injectors.

1.9 doesn't have any source for fuel rate, so consumption and range doesn't work on TC-6 - TM-3 is variant without these functions.

Update: things didn't get well with this TC-6 from SP-EL, the fuel sensor is defective !

The older system was more simple than this one which supposed is ''plug and play" (no cutting the red wire etc).

To be honest i am disappointed from this, it was new, supposed they had tested it and keep in mind that they don't have credit card or ebay payment and the shipping rate is very high.

To get an idea it's much cheaper to get an item from Texas or Sidney to Athens than an item from Prague to Athens.

You can hear the sound on the video, the fourth cylinder is not working properly and my electrician said that he can not do anything because is sealed from the back.

Of course i have not any indications on the LCD screen for fuel consumption so i ordered a new sensor but since it's summer holiday period i have no time to wait for it, when it comes i will install it to see what happens.

Does is spray fuel? It can not be spark related as felly is a wasted spark system

No problem with the sparks, only with the new SP-EL sensor the problem show up, the 4th cylinder does not get the proper fuel.

After disconnect the SP-EL sensor and puts the factory plug everything went back to normal

You can hear the electrician saying that ''now you will see....now it's clean all the 4 of them working"

Yes, it runs bad because has a defective SP-EL fuel sensor for the TC-6 on the injector.

When that sensor removed (2nd video) everything back to normal.

That tape is just an effect, supposed don't let the hot air after some time make the intake pipe get very hot.

OK, why did you assume that a retailer would test a piece of "new kit"?

I must remind you that he makes them and testing something before send it to the customer protects first of all his reputation.

It's not a cheap Chinese store which sells bulbs on ebay and after few months disappears.

Board computers are refurbished trip computers that are thoroughly tested and prepared for customers, not new ones. New computers are not produced by the original company anymore. The set of all sensors is from our production and completely new with 2 years´ warranty.

His words, not my speculations.

On my case something went wrong after 2 days and i post it.

Yeah well, I had the initial impression it was a "new old stock" device, not a refurbished one.

I had SP-EL sensor and it worked well for about four years, until something ate wires to computer... It looks like damaged cable or bad pin contact

What, it never happened to you? It happens here quite often with ignition cables (luckily, Felicia doesn't have any :D), and bonnet insulation, which seems to be tasty for certain animals (martens and mice).

In this case, bunch of cable was missing near firewall, where it diverts from main harness and passes to interior

Pine Martens are at the extreme southern edge of their range in Northern Greece (source Wikipedia).

You mean high-voltage ignition cables? If yes, Felicia with carburetor has them. Luckily no rodents in my area.

I missed a word, I meant My Felicia (136M).

Never-ever heard something relative.

The No1 enemy for cables (when the car is inside a covered dark parking and abandoned for long time is the Mouse.

Many times to protect themselves from the cold some Cats and Snakes can be found inside the engine bay and i know a case where a Goat bite and ate some exposed cables from my uncles motorcycle. :D

The new sensor from SP-EL arrived and i pray to solve the problem because all the other functions of the TC-6 work as they should be.

Update

I replaced the old sensor with a new one, the car started immediately with no problems and finally the fuel consumption started show up on the LCD screen.

I feel that i had to test it few days more to be sure because the first one worked for 3 days before start giving me problems.

Take a look at the back of the part of the sensor that the cable ''steals" signal from the injector and gives it to the monitor, my electrician insists that this is not normal and it's sign of fault (overheating).

What's your opinion about those ''pores" ?
