warranty? parlez vous skoda UK?

Its a Y plate, so is well past warranty time.

What is confusing me is the insurance issue. LV told me only about 3 weeks ago after a check-up with them that I need not tell them about changes done, as long as I keep receipts. Yet, I also hear of stuff having to be insurance approved too. Will have to give them a ring to be sure I think.

I was messing man! I know u have a bodged job Fabia:rofl:

My insurance company does not have that clause unfortunately, and I'm STILL awaiting feedback to find out if it's ok :(

Heatshielding sounds like a good plan regardless :D

Shouldn't you have done that before you started the installation :P:rofl:

And are you CORGI registered?

  • Author

CORGI? isn't that for house/industrial installation technicians? Didn't think the register of gas installers extended to lpg in cars? (they have an LPGA (approved) for that I believe)

We're still waiting to see the final cost for this conversion, Jason !

It must be a pretty big bill as you're clearly still too poor to sign up for Freedom (given the ammount of bandwidth 18,000+ posts have taken I think thats a bit mean)

It wants to be LPGA approved/certified.

Quotes I got for an LPGA approved fitter doing the work varied between about 1500 to 1800 quid, Jason should be paying a LOT less than that :)

Oh pants! I've become ungreen? Good spot Phil - Didn't realise the expiry date for Freedom had passed. :o

I PM'd Colin about it a little while ago but haven't heard from him yet.

Haha! Instant freedom access! Just paypal'd and it looks like I'm back in the green again. :D

Oh, and to actually answer the question. I'm looking at £470 (roughly) for the materials, all brand new and sourced as the right tools for the job, no scrimping on materials, proper tank, proper valves, proper lpg rated fuel pipe. No chance I'm going to sacrifice on quality, even if I'm saving around 2/3 of the cost of getting it done elsewhere.

Good point - Just renewed mine as it's about to expire in July

Sounds like your having alot of fun there Jase!

What have the insurance company said about the latest modification ?

My earlier post showed my feelings on this.

""What is confusing me is the insurance issue. LV told me only about 3 weeks ago after a check-up with them that I need not tell them about changes done, as long as I keep receipts. Yet, I also hear of stuff having to be insurance approved too. Will have to give them a ring to be sure I think.""

So, its a case of wait and see.

Sounds to me like you're treading on very thin ice. Dont envy you if you need to make a claim

I've had some experience of that with LV once before. It was literally a case of send them receipts and they were covered. In theory it should be the same with the powershot system and the tank. :)

Just my 2p worth jase but I'd get it in writing that they will cover it before you go on the open road with it. Insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying!

That's one of the reasons I've not got anything done to my car - first I get it approved in principle, I then pay the premium for a month just to make sure, get it in writing, and then the work is carried out (assuming I can still afford it after paying the premium  )

LV seem to have two sets of policies in effect.

Up until July 2005, ISTR they'd cover you (like Jason's explained). I was told to keep receipts to prove the value of anything I'd fitted if I needed to make a claim.

From then, they've operated a "no-mods" policy. Anyone obtaining an LV policy after the "new rules" came in, can't do anything useful really.

It seems they've got policy holders entitled to the old set of rules.... Maybe they can't unilaterally change things that much.

J.

I'm with Norwich Union - cost is high(ish) but then I suppose that's what you'd get ;)

corgi registered to work on LPG??

get a grip lad!

how many corgi registered mechanics do you know?

It was earlier than 2005 that LV's rules changed. ;) It was around September 2004. They told me this, but as my policy with my car began in Dec 2003 (change of car in Feb 2004) - my current car is still covered under their old rules. However as soon as I change my car (and wish to continue) I immediately get the modification clause wiped out (as in NO mods allowed :()

Simple answer, eh? Never get rid of the mongrel. ;)

Just wondering what the purpose of the installation is?

Obvioulsy on a petrol engined car it is to take advantage of cleaner cheaper fuel, it doesn't offer better mpg than petrol so surely on a diesel it will offer far worse mpg than the diesel does, unless there is some kind of performance benefit on a diesel?

Good luck anyway, I admire your bravery in tackling such a task!
