Anyone bought a Kodiaq through drivethedeal in the last 12m?

Featured Replies

Hi, I’m trying to decide how to source a new Kodiaq and am looking at a few options, one of which is via a broker DriveTheDeal. So far the DTD website seems straightforward, a quick call with them answered courteously and clearly, and I’m wondering what the downsides are?

Three things going through my mind are:

1. The car would be supplied by a dealer a long way away from me - but then again why should that matter? They deliver so why would I care?

2. Frankly I’ve never heard of them before and don’t know anyone who has used them. Has anyone used them for a Kodiaq?

3. How I might end up dealing with small queries if the supplying dealer is 600m away from me. I suppose I just call and hope they’ll help over the phone -  but am I kidding myself?

4. And what happens for warranty and servicing in reality when the supply dealer is so far away - will my local dealership show any interest if they didn’t supply the car? I presume they will want the aftercare business but maybe I’m kidding myself…?

Thoughts and opinions appreciated, especially if you’ve used DTD, good or bad!

cheers

Hi Doombar - No issues with DTD - I never used them personally, but I know others that have.  in reality any warranty work will be picked up by your local Skoda dealership. (you won't have to take it to the other side of the country)

What i did when I got my Kodiaq (like plenty of others i am sure) - is just get your local dealer to match the DTD or Carwow price.  Then you get the best of both worlds.

i was chatting to a dealer a while ago, and he said the fun has gone out of car negotiation now.  people walk in, tell them the car and the spec that they want, and tell them how much they will pay for it (the DTD price) .

Leaves the salesman with a choice on accepting the sale at that price, or losing it to another dealer.

Echo what the others have said. I used a broker for my Kodiaq: the local dealers were unwilling to match the price (policy set by 'head office' on max discount) but were quite happy to service the car. My broker wasn't DTD but a colleague used them, no problems, totally happy with the service.

I'm waiting on a 280 ordered through DTD, quite happy with the DVD experience, very helpful and professional.

Only 'fly in the ointment' is the Skoda dealer supplying the motor who, I might add, gets quite good reviews online and they call me and give regular updates about the build progress.

The price from DTD includes delivery to my house which is 130 miles away - I was happy to collect it myself and by using a very early train the ticket would cost less than £20.

However the dealer is quite intransigent and despite having to pay someone a days wage to drive the motor over, put at least 20 litres of fuel in and buy a open return ticket (£80) back they won't cover my £20 ticket - the choice is I fetch it or they deliver it - same price!

Strange business practice I'd say. But other than that, a positive vote for Drive the Deal.

As for my local dealer, they were over ÂŁ500 shy and wouldn't budge despite me being a existing/returning customer - kept insisting the DTD price was somehow incorrect.

Used DTD in the past and saved £2k on the best Carwow  deal.

Will be using them again.

1. The car would be supplied by a dealer a long way away from me - but then again why should that matter? They deliver so why would I care?  - You can, or you can pay the rail fare (in the great scheme of things what's £100 (max))

2. Frankly I’ve never heard of them before and don’t know anyone who has used them. Has anyone used them for a Kodiaq?  Yes

3. How I might end up dealing with small queries if the supplying dealer is 600m away from me. I suppose I just call and hope they’ll help over the phone -  but am I kidding myself?  What types of queries?

4. And what happens for warranty and servicing in reality when the supply dealer is so far away - will my local dealership show any interest if they didn’t supply the car? I presume they will want the aftercare business but maybe I’m kidding myself…?  They will.
