DSG Noise between Gears under load 1.4 TSI

Recommended Posts

I have the same issue although it seems to crop up much less nowadays after a software fix?

It's a very intermittent problem that would only crop up after a lot of driving around in town.. slow speeds with lots of acceleration and deceleration. After a long period of rest it would go away. Skoda couldn't reproduce it so I produced a video for them.

If you see the comments under the YouTube video, the person that posted the video says VW say it's a DSG fault and are replacing the gearbox as it's under warranty.

It's always been a worry that it's a problem with the DSG, which are known to have issue which VAG don't readily admit to.

I assume the software fix will have to come from a Skoda dealer? That's always been a fear that the DSG box will need replacing, which is crazy expensive. I don't suppose this is covered by VAG as the car is over 3 years old (67 reg)

If you have full dealer history or can show you have had genuine parts fitted each service. You may get a goodwill contribution. I would let a vag gearbox specialist take a look as it might just need a reset. Either way they usually have access to the software updates and will be cheaper than a main dealer.

I haven't been to the dealer for the service I had, but the cars only at 15k miles for a 2017 car. It is a reputable garage though. I might see if I can find a local VAG specialist to take a look, I want to avoid an expensive dealer visit if possible. I think i've lost trust due to high prices and bad stories.

And the trouble with taking to a dealership for these sorts of problems is that according to VW/Skoda the Mechatronics and Gearbox are just complete units. If something breaks on them then they need completely replacing as a whole unit.

Even though most DSG problems can be fixed relatively easily and inexpensively. So an independent specialist should know this and can usually fix it.

Wonder if it's something like the accumulator that's cracked. And it's the loss of pressure in the mechatronics or something.

It just confuses things if people start taking about 1.5 TSI,s ACT,s and DQ200 DSG,s that there was the need of software updates for engines and some of their DSG,s with 1.4 TSI,s and DQ200 DSG,s.      Totally different kettles of fish.   The last of the 1.4 and DSG,s were as good as VW got then there was a bit of a ****-up getting the 1.5,s ready for the WLTP.    The OP needs their vehicles issue diagnosed by someone with all the gear and more than just ideas.

I'm under the impression the 1.4 had the DQ200 and have heard that the clutches can be reset with some equipment over 2 grand. It's understandable that local garages won't want to invest in a costly piece of equipment for the 'DSG'.

I've phoned a couple places who won't touch the car so I might be forced to go down the Dealer route for diagnostics at least (Trust Skoda Dealer). Should have stuck with the manual lol. With only 15k on the clock at 4 years old I wouldn't have expected any issues.

?

Are there not Automatic Gearbox Specialists in your area?   Often that is who Skoda / VE Group main dealerships use when it comes to doing more than plugging in.

Long established ones with a good reputation.

It would be surprising if they did not have the equipment and experience of DSGs.

If you're saying the dealers use the smaller shops it'll probably be worth my time to find/use a smaller outlet. There's a couple by where I work as I'd have to go in the week.

Seems like the main dealers just lap the money up while pawning jobs off to the garages with the knowhow.

I am saying that some Dealership Groups or Dealerships use 'Automatic Gearbox Specialists to contract work out to, even large ones likes Park's (Skoda) Hamilton.

Not all have Master Tech's with the Qualifications or abilities.

Do not let VW Group Employees tell you Clutch Slip is not an issue as it is  very much a known issue as there are TPI's covering it and plenty that have needed Software Updates and even Clutch Upgrades,

Obvious there are very good Dealerships with great staff like the one near to me who have top Techs & yet in the group there are other Dealerships with total muppets.

@logicleehas had enough experience of DQ200 DSG's with failures and might have had the same as you are experiencing.
