Anyone else ordered a new Kodiaq?

Coming from a Mercedes the skoda has better build quality. Might not look as flash but the interior quality is poor. Leather poor mine ripped just looking at it Jean buttons ripped it and the other interior parts are soft and easily damaged. And I'm not talking about an old merc a 2019 one. So your right different league a lower one. Paying for a badge

We must agree to disagree. I bought another Skoda based on its “good value for money” and I amcomfortable with that. Skoda is not a premium sector car manufacturer.

  • Well, after a 7 month wait, I picked up my Sportline facelift today. All options present, including Canton, and the electric child locks with the family pack.

But I think you are mistaking premium for quality.

The Mercedes GLS is an absolutely beautiful and quality 7 seater SUV. It’s amazing. It’s starts at £74K.

The GLB is a stretched GLA, built in Mexico. When you consider that it costs £35K at starting point or thereabouts and obviously that includes the Mercedes badge premium, what quality do you think they are really using for a seven seater SUV costing well under half their actual premium one? It looks nice inside but there are definite corners cut and is the build quality as good as the Kodiaq? No. Nor is the practicality. Or the space.

The thing with premium badge cars is if they introduce a model at an equivalent price to less premium badge cars it means they’ve cut costs to get it out. They don’t give them away.

It's a Renault in a dress.

Personally, I can't stand Merc's current "chintzy" interiors.

To be right, I am getting a Kodiaq (one day) so I do rate them but not a car that will ever be fun to drive or look at. Some other new cars out there now leaving the Kodiaq looking and feeling dated already

The only area I consider the Kodiaq behind comparable class rivals is hybrid tech. All VW group cars seem way behind on hybrid options for some reason. Everything else it’s consistently rated as one of the most refined and comfortable vehicles in the class. Still today by motoring publications it’s only really beaten consistently by the XC90, Q7 and Land Rover Discovery Sport. Those are all premium brand cars and I mean if you ever want to know quality sit inside an XC90. You literally won’t want to leave. It’s absolutely stunning and the best car I’ve ever been inside of. Doesn’t compare to any non Audi VW group product at all. But it’s double the price or more.

You have the newer versions of the Santa Fe and Sorento that add in some slightly newer tech but they are both designed for the US market mainly so to my eyes are a bit ugly (unlike the Sportage and Tucson which are great).

But the Kodiaq is in my view the best 7 seat SUV available for under 40K or thereabouts. And the best kitted out one and best looking one. That’s subjective, some prefer the Taracco, but not to my eyes. Allspace is nice but I think will end up over 40K with options to match the sportline.

I couldn’t agree more. The interior was pretty bland back when it was first released and they’ve made no real improvements in 5 years. Ok, steering wheel and some stitching…

That said though, I too have one on order, I appreciate its bland but it also does what I want it to very well.

Allspace and Terraco both really not to my taste. They are both available with the 245 4wd DSG at a far better price than the VRS though.

I like the interior, maybe a tad bland but solid and utilitarian. No tablet sticking out of the dash, kept the proper AC controls, no acres and acres of bare plastic.

I have ordered VC as I think this "modernises" the interior a lot.

You're getting the wrong one then... mine is great fun to drive 😎.

And it looks a damn sight better than a lot of cars out there, which will look dated as soon as the latest 'trends' for cars moves on.

The last of those will spend more time on the hard shoulder / in the garage, so I don't know why you'd choose that over the Kodiaq!

If you want a premium badge at a relatively low cost and don’t care how ridiculous it looks from the back or that it will be less reliable than Boris Johnson’s statements…

I think plenty who have a few kids and want a badge car to drive them to school and back would get it. It’s not terrible value…until you see the repair bills.

The Kodiaq is ok, I am getting one because it was affordable and does what I need it to do. But that’s where it ends. Volvo, Audi, Landrover are a far superior all round package. Anyone trying to big up the Kodiaq is flogging a dead horse.

Why didn’t you buy a Land Rover discovery sport then? They start at £33K. So similar price to the Kodiaq. I don’t get why, if you think they are so much better you didn’t get one.

You really need to check out some reliability and satisfaction surveys before you claim that. On paper, maybe. In reality, not a chance.

Easy and honest answer: I would if I could afford it. The Kodiaq Sportline 4x4 TDI is costing me £1800 deposit and £365 a month over 3 years. Landrover came nowhere near that. Believe me I tried!

Doesn’t really bother me. Never keep ANY car longer than 3 years. I’ve always got cover for recovery, breakdown and cost. In fact, unable to remember any of my cars in the last 20 years having any issues? Not selling it to me

On lease? How many miles?

Personal contract hire, so includes the VAT from a skoda dealership.

Right now on vanarama you can lease the Discovery Sport for £360 a month with a £3248 deposit. For 48 months.

The cheapest SE Kodiaq is £364 a month with a slightly higher deposit and has to be taken for 60 months to get said deal.

Both deals 6K miles.

Whilst you may have hit an incredible deal at the time for the Kodiaq that’s unusual. The Land Rover Discovery sport is same ball park price as shown here….it’s not more expensive and I’m fairly sure that right now the price is high. If you genuinely think the LR is significantly better then it’s cheaper than the Sportline at list price.

If you see anything close to my deal let me know, I am in!

4x4 TDI. I test drive one last year and looked everywhere for a deal- no a hope in hell mate

On the subject of car quality I was sat in an Audi A4 the other day. Sure it was a 2018 car I think but the quality of the interior was not great compared to my 2019 Karoq. In fact it was quite striking. Hard scratchy plastics. Uncomfortable seats. Tiny infotainment screen. I mean it definitely didn’t feel plush or whatever. I’m sure there are loads of very plush Audis but that one was nowhere near the ‘luxury’ of my Karoq interior.
