I hear there will be something in the Humber region as well.

Using offshore power to make the green hydrogen and operating in the Humber Freezone to benefit from those economic conditions.  Some of the hydrogen will go for export probably but some could be used for local transport and industries.

Still see big issues for distributing hydrogen and the lithium et battery powerribf of vehicles is just stronger at such an fast rate ie rapidly improving energy density and lowering of costs, despite EU/UK tariff measures in the industry, I do not expect Hydrogen to challenge Lithium etc batteries for overall transport supremacy as the power of economic choice.

  • There are certainly no issues with onboard storage of hydrogen in vehicles these days...   Kevlar tanks and the like are far safer than normal petrol tanks.

The biggest issue I have with EVs is the longevity of the batteries. You may well get 300 miles per charge when new, but as the batteries gets older this decreases. This has been proven true for many

I have no issue with EVs, as such, it is just for me the range is not enough yet to generate enough confidence that I could use one for all my driving needs.   Even a 10% decrease in an expe

Yes IGET...   Immingham Green Energy Terminal...   Aimed at converting liquified Ammonia to hydrogen.

Indeed.  The giant company Air Products behind it.

Thought they might be in to producing hydrogen by using excess wind energy maybe rather than extracting hydrogen from ammonia.

Green Hydrogen is part of the answer but direct use in fuel cell EV’s or ICE, never going to happen… just TOO dangerous.

Why?

We have seen pictures of the Hindenburg airship disaster but is it that much more difficult than LNG like many Dacia are fitted with as a dual fuel ?

Yes hydrogen is the most leaky of gases due to the smallest of atom size but insurmountable problem with today's tech ?

Already a few cars out there Hondas and Toyota I think I have seen.  Even as a EV fanboy I can see merit in propulsion fuel diversity.

@lol-lol BP / Aberdeen's plan is Solar farms being built for the electricity for this Hydrogen plant along with the other renewables generated electricity of which there is a lot.      PS. Tim Shaw of Car SOS was on radio Scotland yesterday morning doing a Car Clinic.  When asked about EV,s he told his story of meeting Lord Bamford and taking about what being a Billionaire is like.   Lol.  Lord Banford seemingly said that he spoke about his friend Mr Toyota and that Hydrogen Hybrids were where it was at.  Never heard him say he mentioned his son and his hydrogen projects, bus company, millions of tax payers and investors money ...

Aberdeen's hydrogen  busses, bin lorries, vans and cars have not been in any explosions, nor the Fleet in Fife that has been running for years now. In Aberdeen there are 2 filling hubs for hydrogen vehicles already and boats / ships in the harbour run stuff on hydrogen.

Shell is pulling out of direct to customer hydrogen, it isn't going to happen.

@Crasher  Is that Royal Dutch Shell?   They will all have to choose what they invest in other than Oil & Gas, or bio products.

Are others not going to be retailing to the public as the vehicles become more available again?

??

What is it that is not going to happen and  where, is it in England where the Electricity needs bought in?

There are still surpluses that the National Grid does not buy to sell.

The Hydrogen Hubs are past planning and are being built in Scotland for Low Carbon Transport Hubs and deliveries, HGV,s etc.

Cars are built and more will get built.

Scary that the working on Hydrogen Car trained technicians in Aberdeen work for Arnold Clark, if ever there were to be an accident / incident then it would be vehicles they maintain at the highest risk...

They aren't going to be available again, the manufacturers are dropping the idea as fast as they can; Hydrogen direct into the car is imply not going to work, there are stories of people in California having to call out specialist technicians to de-ice the tank connector so the car can be disconnected, if that happens in California what will it be like in a European winter? What will it be like some some bright spark 💥 has a less sophisticated way of releasing a frozen connector? It does not bear thinking about, If you had seen some of the things I have seen people do to cars...

I suppose the experiences in Wiltshire, Fife and Aberdeenshire over the past years is never going to be like Continental Europe.      Or maybe pretty much like lots of it.      Cars and power trains and going to be of one kind or another before 2040.  We will see what we see.  Well I won't.   Felt like frost bite at times when I used to run Land Rovers on LPG and filled up.

Aberdeen City Hydrogen Double Decker fleet has reached the end of the road. The Zero Emissions fleet is being ditched. Not actually dumped in a ditch! They are going over to Electric Busses.

  • 1 month later...

Not just the Aberdeen City Hydrogen bus scheme a failure and the cost is not just for the busses it is the Hydrogen Hubs so far that cost many millions. The Hydrogen scheme for heating homes in Fife a failure. The full costs from the public purse for the various schemes in Scotland will be revealed fully very soon. After all there is an Election in just 3 weeks. Somebody has obviously made money. Many will have.
