New addition...

Featured Replies

Picking this up on Wednesday..

More tidying than a project, this would be a 1Z5, mk2 face-lift??

this is a Mark 2 pre-facelift, the FL ran from 09-12

Is this in addition to you mk1 or replacement?

I know nothing of these things...

Seen earlier mk2s (or late mk1s?) and they have bump strips on the bumpers... That's why I figured it was a face-lift.

Makes no odds, really, but it is nice to know what it is.. Ta.

In addition.

Missus needed a derv, we'd been looking at Saab 93s, Audi A3s and these.

This came up within budget.

Probably have to have the cambelt done, no record of it in the (minimal) history.

Will this have a dpf?

Yes unless it has a dpf delete

It's standard currently but the inevitable remap will include egr and dpf deletes.

An 08 vrs should be EU4 so if its done properly it should pass an MOT OK...

i was under the impression if a DPF was part of standard fit equipment and it has been removed or tampered with,  it will fail the MOT

You are quite correct (same applies to EGR and catalytic converter)

It'll be mapped out, though, not physically altered or removed in any way - as will the EGR.

how do you map out a DPF without doing anything to it ?

Take it off and knock the guts out of it.

I was under the impression they could be removed via software, no physical touching required... seems that may not be the case - I dunno, never had a DPF'd car before.

It will fail if it is not present or has been noticeably tampered with but it is a visual check only at present so if a dpf cannister is present and is not visibly cut and welded, for example, it should pass.  There are examples on here of this being the case very recently with older vrs and 4x4s or Scouts

No...   It will need to be removed and gutted of its internals and then mapped out.

Ah, memories.  I had a petrol Mk2 and loved it to bits.

Yours looks to be in good condition and given a bit of TLC the blue can really pop on a nice day.

I've put a photo below as ours was lowered on Eibach Sportline springs; it made a big difference to the handling as did the Whiteline RARB.

Something very nice about the blue, no? Was looking at ours last night thinking it'd look nice a tad lower... swmbo is looking at wheels (she likes black, I like gold - but it's her daily driver)

We tend to have black cars so this was a bit of a shock (we're trying to confuse the neighbours now there's 4 cars outside again), it is really nice though..

First spend.....bit of luck I've ordered the right bits.

Changed the air filter today, the old one wasn't terrible tbh, and also noticed something to rib the missus about.

She'll do the cabin filter later, the garage can do the rest.

In an effort to fix the won't pull past 3.5k revs issue (no codes, no nothing, runs lovely, mpg is normal) we're deleting flaps...

Hello Darkside, take my money..

Today was the day...

Off with the original swirly flappy inlet and on with the BKD no flappy inlet.

Not madly impressed with Darksides instructions tbh but we did it..

And got pictures too, much to Kirstys irritation...
