Red oil pressure light

It does look well below the 0.8 that the test suggests is minimum at idle;  depending on gauge accuracy and zeroing.

There's also the question of where the gauge is connected, since most manufacturers' tests are based on the tapping point for the pressure light transponder.

@Subby1345 - Having said which, I'm also remembering one of my Dad's old cars, where a speck of carbon got into the transponder, and caused intermittent low pressure readings. A quick search says that a new part is under £15...

He already changed the switch, I think I read.

Not sure where else one could plug a test gauge into other than where the switch is normally fitted?

I don't know his car, but other places I've heard of:-

  1. oil gauge tapping separated from pressure switch.
  2. sandwich plate for oil cooler.

I've not said that this is the case; just that some cars have had up to 3 possible test points for oil pressure.

The pressure switch is at the back of the engine near the top and the garage has said because of where it is it could be getting a false low pressure reading as the pressure has to build up more. Also You have to remove the engine lifting point to access the switch. Car is a 2010 skoda octavia elegance 1.6 tdi also thank you for all ideas and recommendations as I and the garage that has done the work are still baffled

As above, the only reason I thought of dirt in the switch capillary is that it's happened to my Dad.

You finished your statement with ?? but what is your question?

It is where it is. It's where it's designed to have the pressure monitored by the pressure switch and where the test gauge is designed to be plugged in:

Quoting from the link I posted on previous page:

Test preparations
–  Remove oil pressure switch -F1- → Chapter.

–  Screw the connection of the oil pressure tester -V.A.G 1342- into the hole for the oil pressure switch.

So I don't see much validity to what the garage are saying.

Check the oil temperature next time you've out on a decent length run.  Do you know how to get this display up, if it isn't shown all the time?

?? not a question just meant I'm baffled. Garage had taken car for a drive and when they connected oil pressure tester they left car idling for about an hour before taking/testing the pressure. Which is the video I put up b4

To make sure the oil is nice and hot and hence thin.
