MK1 skoda Fabia pressure sensor

Featured Replies

Hi,

I went through few post but could not find the answer. Thanks  in advance.

On my Skoda Fabia mk1 2001 when unsrewing the  a/c pressure sensor is there a pressure in the system or can I just unsrew it without empyng the A/C system? When I loosen the sensor little a bit, there seems to be gas escaping is that a common thing.?

Thanks again.

There's a valve in there which should close off and retain the system contents as you unscrew the sensor. It probably leaks a tad as you undo it, just as a tyre valve does when disconnecting pump.

Of course there's gas, it's the gas pressure sensor, it doesn't work by remote witchcraft, it's exposed directly to the gas so it can sense the pressure!

Just unscrew it quickly, the valve will close off - and a small amount of liquid will appear and boil off, same when fitting the new one and ideally use a new O-ring, if you find any system oil on the old sensor, use that to lubricate the new O-ring, make sure any salty corrosion is cleaned away before fitting the new sensor.

Edit:- maybe VW Group had a nagging feeling that their AC pressure sensors were going to be troublesome, so made sure that replacing these sensors would be possible without needing to remove the fridge gas charge first.
