Coolant leak diagnosed NEED PART !!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi guys so following my last thread about coolant leak it has been in garage and they have found where the problem is!! It looks like when current owner replaced coolant flange they have somehow bent a metal pipe enough that it's cracked the weld 😒... I will upload the part that is cracked and needed as the garage have told me they don't make the part anymore and are struggling to find one..... anyone have one or any ideas please??? Pic is attached.......20210809_124541.thumb.jpg.14d4cab27ef6ffaede01fa92af2bd0d6.jpg

Remove the pipe, dry it out, and braze in some new metal in/over the crack.

It's a good idea mate il have to look in to getting someone to do it if I can't get the part

Cannot it not be ordered from TPS/Skoda?

  • Author

I'm not sure... I've rang a few vw places and they've told Me they don't make it anymore.. I will try them now tho

Confused by the fact they are described as vacuum pipes, yet you're talking about coolant leakage.

So was the breakers I went to see lol... he worked out tho that one small pipe running off it feeds the coolant

Just rang tps... same story.. (replacement no longer available)

Yeah, that was the idea. If the part's unavailable, how best to repair it.

OT anecdote - I've seen a commercial vehicle fitter take a hacksaw to a pipe he did have, to make the one he actually needed.

Not sure you'd want a new one even if you could buy one, RRP over £115 !

VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda 06A145675D VACUUMPIPE (allcarpartsfast.co.uk)

I'd think you'll get the same story if you call that lot.

I'm not recommending them either, just a site I use to get RRP info.

Mend what you've got, as already suggested.

Thanks wino il try them now and it is looking like a fix rather than a buy at the moment to be fair..  I'd rather buy 1 for piece of mind but we will see 🤞

Good to know mate.. thank you 👍

Update...

got part from Germany.. garaged fitted it today..  there's was alot of silicon apparently around coolant flange which they removed and put back on then coolant was flying out of it so they changed that for a new one... replaced the temp sensor too as there was silicon all around that... I'm thinking the new o ring will be enough of a seal for the job... I get the silicon thing the previous owner must of done but I'm thinking if its not meant to be there then it shouldn't be???.... anyway... so far so good... I have only drove it home so the real test will be in the morning when I move her...

praying there's for no puddles 🙏🤞

Check that your radiator fan(s) work on both speeds. Low speed failure is very common, resulting in higher temps and more pressure.

  • Author

What is best way to check that mate?... I never get overheating but engine bay does get really hot even on short journeys..  I drive 8 mile to work and when I get out and walk round front I can literally feel the heat coming through... my pal reckons 1.8 20v ts just run hot... he said he had a mk4 golf from new and that was the same

Does the car have aircon?

  • Author

Yes

Then the fans should come on at low speed soon after switching it on and demanding cold air, if it's working and ambient temperatures are warm.

  • Author

So if I turn the aircon on and the fan runs that means the low speed fan is working ?

  • Sponsor

Unless it runs 'vigorously'/loudly as that might be the full speed mode.

One or two rad fans?
