Fan Making a funny sound

Featured Replies

Turned on the fan this afternoon when I got in the car, everything was fine until about 20 seconds after turning on the fan then a loud noise started. It makes a noise on every setting 1 2 3 4 ( it gets louder the higher you turn it up) . It sounds like a leaf is stuck in the pipes, noise coming from centre blowers. Car still in warranty.

I do believe it is possible to remove trapped leaves by dropping out the pollen filter.

Mine whistled for ages on every setting. After visiting the dealer twice and having the motor changed the noise was still there.

It was fixed by a different dealer who just changed an ill fitting pollen filter!

Make sure and check it when the fan is diverted to the windows, face, footwell and see if it is constant throughout. If it is, then is probably the pollen filter or worse, the motor.

If it is the motor would the warranty cover it and where is the pollen filter is it any easy job.

If you search for 'pollen filter' it will help you all you need.

Most definetly a leath in the airbox (motor housing) depends who your dealer is but its not coverd by warranty.

Oh my god.......please tell me this is wrong and the motor is covered.

The motor will be covered, but leaves in the heater box wont be.

 What happened on Saturday?

It is if you have piano players hands!!:) . My little stumpies are too short and chubby to get far enough in if you excuse the expression.

Have had the irritating leaf tick on and off for a few weeks now, since the weather warmed up. I guess the heater softened whatever is in there and it didn't make a noise in the winter.

Strangely seems to disappear sometimes if the aircon is on. Playing around with the vent settings sometimes stops it for a bit but it comes back.

Took the filter out and cleaned it up but didn't make a great deal of improvement.

Took the glovebox out to see if I could get at the fan but looks too big a job.

Is it possible to access the intake side from the scuttle in front of the windscreen?

Managed to slide of the cover of the pollen filter but how do you pull the the filter.

It pulls straight downwards into the footwell with a reasonable tug but put a dust sheet or similar underneath to catch the debris. Gripping it isn't easy while still fully engaged but you can start it moving by pulling on the loose plastic edging of the filter panel itself.
