Anyone got rust in this area?

Featured Replies

Spotted inside recess for door strap, only on front doors. Looks like a bit of a trap for moisture with nowhere to go.

Want to keep the car for a while so need to take care of it.

Anyone else?

That’s poor. You might have a warranty claim there.

2015 so doubt it, 12 year is perforation which this is not, yet.

I didn’t have perforation round the numberplate lights on the boot lid on our MKI, but after 7 years SUK approved a replacement.

Are you near the sea, Stevie?

That is encouraging, will be at a dealer tomorrow so will get them to have a look.

Car spent first 3 years of its life near Southampton so yes.

I asked because we had issues with rust in the exact same place on a number of Audi, who staff lived on the coast. It was only those vehicles which were affected. The paint is particularly thin in that area and it can, under some circumstances, remain damp for days and that, combined with the salt in the air, makes for a poor combination. Audi fixed them under warranty via the leasing company.

Damage always looks worse on white vehicles.

I always spray vulnerable areas I can reach with something like this ...

I use white grease quite a bit too, but the Auto Extreme rust proofer spray claims to kill existing rust. On my wife's fiesta the MOT inspector actually commented that all the areass that go on the car were protected. One of the benefits of doing stuff yourself I guess, when I changed the pollen filter yesterday I sprayed a few areas that were behind the plastic on the gear lever tunel, something no garage ever does for you.

Update:

Skoda refused warranty, they obviously feel rust like this on a six year old car is acceptable.

I will be sending back to bare metal and re-spraying myself as it is such a discrete area it doesn't have to be 100%. I'll post updates.
