Wireless Phone Charger

Featured Replies

My car came with the optional wireless phone charger.

It connects ok to my iPhone 12 but it charges very slowly, lucky to get 5% an hour.

Could anyone who has this option please let me know whether this is normal or whether I have a faulty unit.

Thanks.

I would say if you are using your Nav (GPS) through Apple Car Play (or Android Auto) that would sound about right. The GPS eats battery so quick that a wireless charger will just about stop the phone discharging it's battery.

Thanks for that. I am using Apple CarPlay wirelessly and GPS so that may account for the slow charging.

Disappointing though.

Yep, especially when you know a cable connection will run the GPS and charge a almost empty iPhone fully within an hour or so...........

Having taken my car to the Skoda garage to check the charging they looked at the problem and spoke to Skoda.

It appears slow charging is a known fault with the iPhone 12 and they say it is caused by Apple not allowing the iPhone to heat up to the levels allowed in previous iPhones.

The wireless charging generates heat and the iPhone 12 doesn't like this.

Doesn't quite explain why other wireless chargers don't have this effect on the iPhone 12.

Hi folks. Any idea what the Chi wireless charging rate in Watts should be?

I didn’t have the charger in the car when I bought it. I removed the rubber lining from the tray and put in a Mous MagSafe Charger, which is plugged into the USB-C port in the same compartment.

The phone gets pulled into the optimum charging position by the magnet when I drop it into the tray and I get a great charging rate, regardless of whether I’m using GPS, streaming music or a combination of the two. The phone gets warm, but never to the point it causes a problem.
