Online Map Update

Featured Replies

I have been getting the runaround from Skoda UK about online map updates (part of the Skoda Connect subscription), the latest from them is that at the moment ‘Online Map Update is temporarily not available’, can anyone confirm that they’ve been able to use the online update system (through the menu on the infotainment) recently to update maps? Has anyone else tried it and had issues?

My car is a MY18 Superb with Columbus, although I would expect it’s the same system for all Skoda’s that support online map update.

Just check out the links at the bottom of my post for an easier way.

Skip the faf of all the online stuff, download, stick in on a usb and away you go

I've just updated my Columbus system to 20/21 through a usb stick no hassle at all and then added the cameras to it

Hi

I've been having the same issue with SKODA about a service that has been paid for but is not being provided (Skoda Connect).

I'm not interested in some non-standard alternative that has the potential to screw up things and invalidate the real solution.

I have version date july 2020, for UK, but I have seen May2021 on new superb so there is an update, but skoda have not made it available.

We should all make a formal complaint to SKODA HQ NOT the UK address.

TBF, the map updates isn't a non-standard alternative.

It's the official process that all of us without Skoda connect have to use.

I understand your frustration with a service you have paid for, but it isn't a non-standard approach to do it by memory card.

I don't really know why you're defending Skoda here, yeah there are two official processes to get map updates installed, but for those of us PAYING Skoda to use the other process that hasn't been working (apparently for 3 months now) it's frustrating to not be getting the service we are paying for.

Point out where I defend Skoda?

I'm correcting the assertation that it's a non-standard way of doing things.

In fact, I definitely say "I understand your frustration..." if you would like to go back and re-read it.

Where did you buy the Skoda connect subscription? If it’s your local dealership I’d go back there and ask for a refund.

Failing that I’d go to Twitter as that’s negative publicity for them which they’ll sort it out I bet.

Annoying you’ll have to do that but it’s the way everything has been for years now, a bit like when people complain to a company and nothing gets done, the people then go to watchdog then magically things get done

I think it's fair to use any means possible to get a supplier to provide the service that has been paid for, I just sign-up to twitter just to do that when I don't trust social media at all.

I've now raised Formal complaint with Skoda UK, which has been totally useless, so now I'm complaining to the Skoda head office.

Everyone who has this problem should try to escalate it, AND

anyone who has managed to get it to work should reply to this forum with the details and how they did it please.

I will be keeping an eye on this post, as I know there is an update available for my car.

Being an IV, I have no SD card slot. I have tried a USB stick in the front port, and it does not seem to work?

The online download does not work either.

What happens when you press download anyway?

I’m guessing you connect to your home WiFi and sit in the car for at least 1 hour (depending on home broadband speed)?

I don’t know how the online update works but first thing I’d do is have a laptop (connect to 2.4ghz network not 5ghz) in the car then download the file from their website and see how long that takes, that way you’ll roughly how long you need to leave your car to do the update

Is there a reason why you'd choose the 'slower' connection?

Two reasons, 2.4ghz travels further (handy for if car is on the drive) and second was I’m not sure whether the WiFi in the car can do 5ghz, if it can then great but if not be best to make the laptop be the same as the car can get for timings

Not much....

I believe there’s an option to select which country to update, try selecting a small country and see if that updates rather than do all at once.

See what this crazy guy does at 58seconds deselect all countries bar one then try

You can’t even get that far, the infotainment system hangs at the point you hit the ‘Retrieve’ button (37s in that video).

edit: I assume the hang is down to a backend network problem, at least that is what Skoda is telling me.

Ah that’s dirty, I assume you’ve done a full reset of infotainment for hits and giggles just to eliminate that?

I have done a partial reset of the navigation part, I’m reluctant to do a full reset unless Skoda CS tells me I need to because that’s a lot of settings and customisation to redo.

Only customisations should be in car setting so take some photos of your settings.

It is a pain but at least you’ll know for sure if it works or not

This is not helpful.

This all assumes that Skoda UK make a map update available to download, which they have not  done so far in 2020 or 2021.

Looking back to 2018  at least proves that outside UK someone managed to get the process to work, which is something.

Has anyone in the UK been able to do the online map update in 2021.

I had a call from my dealer today to try the USB download AGAIN - Skoda UK obviously have no idea what there doing yet.

I updated my South England maps to the 2021 release in late June, just before the online update service went phut, which I discovered when I went to update North England in early July.

You could get really geeky and set up wire shark on a laptop and see exactly what’s happening when your car tries to get the update when connected to your own WiFi, but you shouldn’t have to do that.

I have literally too much time on my hands right now but I have a 2016 and not Skoda connect so I can’t test this out myself

Great.

What Info system / model year of car

How did you know that an update was available

what did you have to do to get it to download

how long did it take

what is the date / version of the UK map

what error message have you had when trying to do more recent updates

how many time have you done map updates online
