Outrageous spares pricing !

Featured Replies

Broke the passenger side mirror glass on my 2016 Octy 1.4 Tsi yesterday. The glass is anti-dazzle and has a heating element as well as the plastic clip arrangement on the back. I phoned my local dealer for a price on the glass only component and was quoted £299.40 !! Even the person I spoke with couldn't believe it. No matter how fancy the glass, heating element or plastic clip, this price is an outrageous and shameful ripoff and totally unjustified. I have emailed Skoda UK to express my outrage ! Shame on you Skoda!

Some arse took the wing mirror off my Mk5 golf 4 days after I got it. Glass was broken and a couple of clips, but other wise it had all popped off… cost me $700 to fix the glass and get it put back together… so yeah, I feel your pain!

Odd, I broke one of mine and it cost me about £30‐40. About 12 months ago.

Try googling Skoda OEM parts. It's not a difficult thing to refit IIRC.

Yup, I was going to fit myself. The price quoted was for the part only. I have looked at OEM but I don't think this is 'like for like'. I was looking for a mirror which offered the same anti glare properties as the original. My problem is that I do suffer from visual 'flare' in bright lights at night so this facility is useful. I always appreciated that this might cost a bit more but I still think the asking price is completely unjustifiable. It really is gross profiteering, common across the industry, and needs to be called out. I don't really want the attention but I was considering going to a consumer affairs programme because I am completely incensed.

Looks like if you want replace like for like and keep the auto dimming, it’s going to be expensive
