DSG clunk noise when downshifting

Featured Replies

Hi al,

I bought my Scala 1.0 TSI DSG 4 months ago and after the first 3000km it started to do a weird noise when downshifting manually.

I would like to share with you a video and ask you if you have any idea about what is the problem.

BTW I took my car to the official dealer. They checked the noise but for them is normal.

Thanks in advance.

I never had that clunk on my dq200 dsg 7 speed when downshifting.  I am curious what others will say about it.

Obviously this is not normal. This is a car, not a truck. I would recommend you to show your car to different official dealer.

I have a Kamiq 1.5 TSI DSG. I can sometimes feel it shifting from 1st to 2nd but it never made a single noise.

Feeling it shift is normal but clunk sounds while shifting is weird. Sounds missalligned i think

Thanks guys I will check in a different official dealer. This is being a nightmare when buy a new car it’s supposed to be something special.

Yeah man, keep us in the loop, I am curious what it will turn out to be.

My Scala with 17k miles still very smooth no clunks or noises. Sling it back at the dealer.

Ooh, no! That doesn't sound right at all.

I think I'd want a second opinion from another dealer on that.

I work in transmission calibration and this doesn't sound right. I'm not an expert on the dq200 but it's highly likely it stores adaption values in order to ensure shift quality with component tolerances. There will be some adaptions which are set initially for the transmission build and some which keep relearning to account for wear (e.g. clutch touch point). It could be that these adaptions are incorrect and need relearning. Also the shifting performance is very dependent on the engine speed and torque and so a fault with the engine could cause bad shifting behavior, are there any engine problems? The obvious third point, is the oil level/quality of the transmission oil.

2 oils in this 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG, that in the box and that for the MCU.   Different from the wet clutch DSG,s with oil change service schedules, the same oil does both.
