Skoda Yeti Columbus

Featured Replies

I have the original Columbus in my Yeti. works fine, but very old fashioned. Skoda portal offers no updates.

What I would really like is a modern system with Apple Carplay.

Can anyone recommend an option please?

Or shall I just change the car.

Just change the car if you can. Possible to change radio system but it's a real pain unless you can find an auto electrician to do it for you - and after all that hassle and expense the car won't be worth a penny more.

Thanks. I am happy to pay someone to do it. If possible I would like to keep the car. Not fussed about cost - I just would like something that fits and works. The car is in superb condition but not worth a lot, but it does the job for me.

It's definitely cheaper to keep the car and change the headunit! ;)

Kenwood used to have some models that offered extra VAG features but I'm sure others will have suggestions to offer.

If you are keeping the car long term you could look for the latest Amundsen head unit so getting all the attributes of the latest unit. Might find one in breakers yard or eBay etc. Otherwise first find a good auto electrician and get their experience and advice on best units to fit.

I too am thinking of replacing my head unit with a later model, but does anyone know for how much longer VAG will provide map updates for the Admunsen 2?

I suspect if the car was not built with the Amundsen II it will not get updates as it's done on the VIN too.
But if you know someone who could download them it may work.

I don't believe the VW version of the updates require a VIN, plus the VW updates used to be ... not sure of the current position, were far newer than the Skoda version, and they load and work exactly the same.

Hope it helps.
