Headlight washer

The issue is you cant buy the jet ..... you have to buy the whole telescoping assembly .. (annoyingly)

Simple job to unclip jets and swap over.

They really should sell the jets as a spare, especially as it provides nige point for the flap

Yeh, I got that from your last post.

Have you any idea why your hinge broke in the first place?

Flkap was hit when a towing strap snapped  ...... big rufty tufty Kodiaq got stuck in sand, 4WD did NOT kick it and it could not come out in 2WD

I had a Fiat Panda tow me out !

First nylon strap broke and flick back hit the flap and killed it.

Haldex unit did not do its thing and engage rear wheel drive

How old is the car our of interest?

If the headlamp washer was being used at the time then fair enough, easy to see why it broke off.

However if you're saying the cover flap was in the closed position with nowhere to go,  but it still broke the hinges then it's not just the plastic lugs that are of flawed design.

It was closed, wipers/washers not in use …. Assume it did not like the slap

 Just over 3 yr old

Just gone to have a look at the mechanism again, it just shouldn't move however my best guess at what's happened? It's a large cover and there's nowhere for it to move unless it's struck dead centre. Even then it shouldn't move but having a look at the piston ( or lift cylinder to give it it's proper name, part no 565955965A ) half way down there are a couple of plastic spring tabs and what looks like locator tabs.  If that's all that's holding the jet plunger in place then anything that hits the cover dead centre could be enough to move the whole unit.  Of course the other possibility is the plunger is not fully retracted when the cover is in the closed position. If that's correct then that's a design flaw.

Either way, it's such a cheap and nasty way of contructing a vehicle, worse still, in an area liable to damage. I was doing a disservice to that £33 primed cover when I said it was worth 50p, it's not worth 5p. it's thin as feck and has no proper strengthening ridges. It wouldn't cost Skoda a penny to correct this flaw, all it needed was a design engineer with half a brain. I really expected better build quality than that from VW Group let alone a car costing near £40k.

All that holds cover on to the assembly are 2 very thin plastic hooks .... as you say easy to make them much more substantial ...  'follows ... 'Bare minimum required' design approach.

If it were a Mercedes it would be much better engineered .... but at a cost.

I had that on a previous Haldex equipped Skoda (2008 Octavia Scout). I was stuck. In frustration I manually turned off the ESP (it had a separate button like the Kodiaq, down by the electronic parking brake), and it flew out 🤷‍♂️

Well credit where credit is due, a big thumbs up to Skoda Customer services who've sorted me out.

By the letter of the law, it really would have been down to me to prove the item was faulty at the point of manufacture, but as stated above, unless the cover had been damaged during manual removed then there was simply no explanation why it failed.

Happy customer again.

Been there seen it, done it.  That cost comes in two forms with Mercedes 1: financial cost and 2: over engineering.   You'd have thought they'd learned their lesson with the Tiger Tank :D  ( although that may not have been Mercedes fault ).
