I can assure you that some cars with halogen headlights have headlight washers; I've owned two of them (different makes).

Yes I agree with you hid lights led lights and xenon lights comes into this group.if this is law for cars fitted with these lights why would anyone want to disable them?they ar clean

Sorry about keep going on about this.are we not talking about ourselves and other drivers on the road?may I ask the moderators to look into this subject please?

The OP asked for either deactivation or delay settings. Delay settings have been highlighted, albeit for the Mk3. I don’t think anybody knows - for either option - for the Mk4.

I feel you’re getting a tad wound up about this.

Lol, I was just about to say the same - I think most of us are more interested in delaying than disabling. I guess it depends on your local conditions but for me they come on way too often and it's pretty annoying when your nice, shiny clean car gets covered in washer fluid.

Yes I hold my hand up to that one,yet when it comes to safety I do get wound up.when the thread first came out people were saying they pulled the fuse out.is that right? Other people were asking to stop them working is that right.i will keep stum on this object now I have said my piece.

I was the one who asked the dealer to pull the fuse out - but the circumstances were a little different. The car was a Honda S2000 from 2001. The headlamp washers were controlled by a separate button - not linked to the windscreen washers. The button was placed on the central tunnel right next to the gear lever where it was easily pressed by accident. The car, apparently unlike a Skoda, had a separate fuse for this function.

+1

My Octavia Mark 3 Elegance with halogen headlights had headlight washers.

I am all for road safety so no longer brake test tailgaters.   Instead I use my windscreen washers and turn on their Auto wipers as their lovely clean car gets sprayed with my fragrant wash fluid and their wipers come on.  Good stuff with convertibles.      I try to refrain when it is bikers but sometimes needs must, I have good regen on my car but the brake lights do not come on with it.   Ps, re washers as standard.  Check out strength of lights / heat and need for washers.  LED / matrix as and other cooler lights may not have an issue with dirt being cooked on.

In new Octavia you cannot turn off lights without stopping.

Actually my current MK7.5 golf has this delay feature now. I have to press washers function for 2 seconds before it activates the light washers. I do sometimes use it, but 80% of windshield washer usage i DONT need the headlight washer to spray all over my car.

After being caught by surprise a few times I finally realized that my Octavia works that way too.

Short press activates only windscreen washer.

Long press (> 2 secs?) activates headlamp washers as well.

Now I know how it works I am happy with that arrangement.

But perhaps it is setup different in other markets?

Interesting! I'm off on a cross-country drive tomorrow and the weather is promising to be pretty bad so I'll give this a try.

Still trying to get some nice photos of the car but I don't think that's going to happen this weekend unless I'm very lucky....roll on summer.

Yes; plasma discharge units and possibly LED.

ECE Regulations 48 and 98.

Any HID lights exceeding 2000 lumens and all LED headlights must have headlight washers and self-levelling.

I've only just read this thread and appreciate the technical help from Briskoda members. Yesterday, when I drew the car out of the (dark) garage, the headlights were on. I washed the windscreen, which was dirty, and the headlight washers covered the clean bonnet with spray too. Now I know how to clean the screen only. Thanks!

I can confirm that this appears to work on my car (NZ market vRS) cheers @DaveFromSydney

Out for a short drive today and remembered to try the washers. Turned on the headlights and a very quick squirt of the windscreen washer, the headlight washer came on too. Subsequent squirts it was only the windscreen.

A quick check in the manual…

If the headlights are on, the headlight washer is activated on the first wash of the windscreen, then every tenth.

It goes on to say that it is configurable by a specialist.

This is a UK market SE L FE.

Not all LED equipped cars have headlight washers. The SE FE loan car I had was fitted with the same standard Octavia LED lights as my own - and that did not have headlight washers.

As I mention above, my Mk4 Octy manual states they are configurable.

I think it is more to do with brightness that just being LED. 2000 Lumens comes to mind but not sure.

But you can order Matrix headlights without washers. It is a possible combination, at least in my market it was.

The first screen wash sprayed the headlights today, even when the lever was blipped. In the great scale of things, this is a trivial problem for me.

Golf Mk8 iq.lights does not have washers, but they have little less power in them.

My 2019 Mondeo had the adaptive LED lights and didn't require washers, neither did the X trail I had before that or the A Class I have now. I think LEDs only require self levelling, xenons required levelling and washers.

Lights over 2000 lumens require a washer, at least here in Funland.

I have no idea 😞

There must be people on this site who will know

https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-reviews/halogen-v-led-v-matrix-led-v-laser-headlights-compared-and-tested

They recorded 93 lux at 50m on the Full Beam of Skoda Superb Matrix LED lights, which roughly translates to around 4600 lumens, so that would put the actual per headlight at around 2300 lumens.
