Rear wiper Jet - No Spray - Replacement Motor Required?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

My Superb is currently with a local main stealer for a major service,

I've received an email for them advising additional works required, things such as brake fluid change - £65.00, Replace expired Tyre inflation kit - £20.00, as well as being told that both my front shock absorbers are leaking and will need replacing else they'll fail the MOT. A few months ago, I was told of light misting...

Anyway, I noticed last week my rear wiper arm was moving, but no water was coming out. I reached for pin, to make sure the ducts were clear, but no joy. When it went in for a DSG service to the same garage a few months ago, they unclogged it and it was clear there was a rusty residue that came out when it was cleaned, as it was on the boot lid when I collected.

I asked them to look at it again, and they've advised the following:

Rear wiper motor is required - £207.83 we have attempted unblocked via goodwill but unfortunately the vehicle requires a replacement motor

It seems quite a drastic option to replace the motor to the tune of £210, has anyone else had any experience this is failing? I've warranty on the vehicle, so it should be covered, I do believe it still carries an excess of £100, so questioning if its worth coughing up?

Not sure why they would be replacing the wiper motor if that is working but the washer isn't...  The washer pump is a separate item?

Its a very good question, I could of sworn I've read that the front/back is driven by the same pump?

Yes ..   if yours is the same as other Skoda's it's one pump that spins in opposite directions for front back and has a small valve arrangement on it.  Usually in the front left wheel arch behind the liner...   About £15...

As for the other stuff...   Tyre inflation kit...   Why bother and shockers ..   maybe see if it does fail first as slight misting is ok and not a fail if I remember.

Completely agree. Tyre inflation kits are pointless, I'd call recovery before I'd attempt to use one of those cans. I'll let the MOT tester decide if its a fail or not before I have to get my wallet out.

I've challenged back via email on the initial statement regarding the motor, and they've advised the following:

The washer itself runs through the motor and in this instance there is a visible blockage, due to the history of stripping and cleaning on a previous visit it is now that we have to advise replacement to prevent continuous returns for said issue. If we were to strip and clean the motor it would require an hour of labour which is £97.50 +vat

Anyone have a part number for this said motor at all? I'd take a look myself, but I've heard the clips on the boot lid are a pain in the backside to remove?

Anyone?

If there’s a “visible blockage” (presume it’s a clear pipe then?) and this can be unblocked, wouldn’t it be better to find out the cause, given they’ve unblocked it before? Does the £200+ they’ve quoted for the motor include the removal/ installation labour, or is that another £100/150?

To be fair, I've not done any exploration on the issue myself. I only noticed the night before service that it wasn't working. So raised it with Skoda whilst the car was in. They told me the front shocks needing replacing, but only had light misting 3 months ago... so I couldn't really trust what they were saying, as it felt like they were tapping me up for cash for repairs.

I believe the nozzle goes through the motor on saloons so that’ll be why they are saying a new motor is required

Thanks for clarifying, sounds like a bit of a design flaw! I'm wondering if anyone has the part number, as I have warranty on my vehicle, so should be able to claim.

Hmmm!

I'm not a pro at ETKA, but it looks like the part number is either 5E5955711B which is £169.39 (VAT included) as of today, or it could be 5E5955711C which is £90.83 (VAT included) as of today, you'd think C superseeded B but it hasn't on this occasion.

Hopefully you need the latter, but I'd recommend ringing your local Skoda dealership (or any, price should be the same wherever) and ask to speak to the parts department then ask them directly, they'll ask for your reg plate then they can get the vin number and will know exactly which one fits yours.

I suspect you have talked to them by phone but i usually ring reception and ask to go to the parts department, I then say can you give me the price and part number of the "rear motor wiper", then listen to them eat something on the phone as they seem to be fed whilst on the phone, they'll ask for your reg and should give you P/N and price.

Hopefully that helps, I can see if I can find the Erwin document on how to remove it if you fancy?

Many thanks,

I'll try and get through to part at my local dealer see if I can source the exact part.

Erwin document on how to remove it, would be super helpful!
