Time for a Touch Up

Featured Replies

21st century paint isn’t very tough.

Have only 8,500 miles in over a year, but have picked up a few stone chips.

It’s obviously down to luck on today’s roads.

Found a local paint shop - or should say my older lad found the place when also looking for touch up paint - and acquired a little pot for a mere £8.

Mixed up on the spot in some clever computerised paint mixer.

Will dab some on in the near future. Not looking for a showroom finish. Just want to cover the bare metal.

I hope that you bought a bottle of the clear coat as well.

The proper Skoda/VAG touch up kits are reasonable value, come with both base and clear coats and have a very handy needle scaler built into the lid.

Or at least they used to.

Since it is bare metal and not just happened I would be touching that with a little rust inhibitor before the paint is put on with a cocktail stick or what ever applicator is chosen.

+1

Have been using these on my Skodas since the beginning. Stone marks tend to get rusty. Undone rusty stone marks could get your body warranty revoked.

Skoda has pretty soft paintwork.

Never needed any touch up kits on my previous 4 Mondeos.

I was a car sprayer & an industrial sprayer, as in time served & worked at it.

Soft and hard paint being discussed is interesting.

Personally i have found that hard paint (brittle) is more prone to chips than soft paint.

Well actually i find that you can have cars painted with the same process and some might be chipped and some might well not be.

Stone chips are not touched in with a touch up to the factory spec and really the Manufacturers Paint or Corrosion / holed panel is void anyway by even using 'VW Group branded touch ups'.

That is if you happened to be trying to claim on a location with a touched up area where there was a chip that you had just touched up to cover the chip.
