Air con issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have a very annoying issue with my aircon. The car is parked under cover so doesn't ever get warm in the cabin even on the hottest days.

But, when the cabin does get hot (say we go out somewhere and it gets left in the sun) when I get back in the aircon just refuses to work. It'll just blow midly cooled air into the cabin even on the lowest setting and on auto the fans are going full tilt. It's confusing because I know it works as if I use it straight away when it's cool in the car already it blows out freezing cold air.

Question is, and I think I know the answer, is if a regas will help? Only thinking that option as its the easiest solution but I don't want to bother doing that only for it to not make a difference.

Any help or experience would be appreciated, we've got a trip to Cornwall in a couple of weeks and it's a 7 hour drive at best and would like it sorted by then ideally (8 month old in the back who most certainly does not like the heat!)

It could be that the gas fill weight is at the minimum and a regas could fix your problem.

It will ship from the factory with the minimum fill level.

My aircon works ok but it could definitely be cooler.

When it starts in the failed state does it ever kick in? Are the radiator fans working? Any clicking from the compressor clutch?

It does seem to eventually if the windows are opened and it starts to cool down in the car. Not sure about the fans, I assume so as it works from a cold start and I assume it needs the fans to do that.

Its booked in for a regas Thursday to see if that solves the issue, hopefully its as simple as that.

See how the regass goes, it points more to a failed internal temperature or sunlight sensor to me.

Same, not sure the regas will cure it but it needs doing anyway so would be a good starting point.

It's a 2017 and when I got it Feb this year it only done 10k miles so it may have been sitting around for a while which may have caused this issue and the regas sorts it.

Just to check, are you driving in normal engine mode?

I ask solely as I understand the aircon is 'turned down' when in Eco mode.

The engine is in eco mode, but I have set up my own mode and pretty sure the aircon is set to normal.

Is a good point though, will check it when I am home this evening and see what mode the aircon is in

There should be no clutch clicking since, AFAIK, they don't have a clutch but a valve system instead? Was told this by the head mechanic at the dealership when mine started doing some annoying noise that went away if the AC is turned on. Also, the climate control has 3 modes, weak, normal and strong (or something like that) that you can access in the infotainment menus. Check that it's not set to weak. Mine was and it was very unresponsive to higher cabin temps. Much better after setting it to medium.

Thanks for the replies, can confirm after the regas and changing the setting for it through the infotainment (it was on eco) its just not working at all.

Will get it booked in to be looked at, just hope its not an expensive fix
