Octavia MK3 Dash backlight

Featured Replies

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help answer a question for me please? I've changed from a 2011 Octavia to a 2018 year one, I've noticed that my dash back lights (for the Speedo/rev counter etc) don't light up when I switch the lights from off to side lights, but they come on perfectly when I switch to dip/main beam.

Is this normal, or is there a setting that needs changing, or is it just a fault in the car?

Anyone who can help that would be much appreciated 👍.

Thanks,

Neal

As far as I'm aware, this is perfectly normal.  When in daylight and the DRLs are in use, the instrument lights are out. They illuminate when you switch on the headlights.  I hope you are not implying that you are in the habit of driving around on sidelights, which are only intended for use when you are parked.  If this is the case, perhaps you should consider leaving the switch permanently on Auto, which will allow the car to decide what lights you should be displaying.

Yup, perfectly normal. From the owners manual:

The brightness of the instrument illumination is set automatically depending on the ambient lighting throughout. If the visibility is poor and the lights are not on, the brightness of the instrument lighting reduces to alert the driver to switch on the lights in due time.

In short, if it's dark outside and you've not put the low/dipped beams on, it'll dim the cluster to remind you :D

Thanks, at least I know that it's not an issue with the car. The last Octavia I had the dash lighting illuminated when the side lights were on, but that one didn't have DRL. It is logical what they've done as it does help prevent people driving around in urban areas in darkness with just the side lights on. Cheers 👍

You can adjust it with VCDS; may ask @SashaGrace
if it is still a problem for you.
