TEMPERATURE PROBLEM

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. I am having a problem with engine temperature, it's in the middle 90°c when stationary and 50 when driving.

I've seen on all the discussion it's the coolant temperature sensor and/or dsg thermostat which need changing. I'm wondering are these both the same thing or do I need two different sensors.

Can someone tell me the part number(s) I need or pictures of the items I need. Garages haven't got a clue so I'll be doing this myself, 4 garages saying no such thing as dsg temperature sensor, they get all defensive saying they're specialists or start telling me their credentials. I'm not interested in that all I'm interested in is fixing my car

Please help!!!

My car is a 2015 (01/04/2015) Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI it's CFFB engine code DSG

If your temperature is 90°C while stationary and decreases while driving the issue is not a sensor but definitely a thermostat. And since you have a 6-speed DSG, the issue is most likely the thermostat of your DSG. Have it replaced and the problem will be solved.

As above, this is almost certainly a thermostat issue, not a sensor. You might be confusing the garages if you're using the terms interchangeably...?

It could be either stat but given the DSG stat is much cheaper and easier to replace, it's typically a good plan to swap that first.

It'll be a similar procedure to other VAG cars, for example:

These are 2 separate components, and indeed do 2 different things. The sensor just measures the temperature (in the case of the engine coolant) and appears to be working correctly. A thermostat open and closes at preset temperatures to control the flow of working fluid through a radiator (which always cools the fluid although the radiator itself can be either a system cooler as here or a space heater like in your living room). I'd say that the dsg thermostat has failed full open.

Given that "some guy on the internet" can tell this from your description, you've been to some hopeless garages!

Hi thanks for reply. It seems everyone seems to have the same type of DSG thermostat except for me. Mine is coming up as this on Eurocar parts 209440170 can you check for me if this is right part?

Is it possible for you to find me the part as it seems my part looks totally different to everyone on this forum. It's coming up as this on Eurocar parts 209440170.

You have something I don't; access to your car.

Will reg number help? I called main dealers today and they never heard of it. They said it's probably oil cooler I said no.

I found the same when it came to this part. Mention a DSG thermostat to Skoda and they generally have no idea what you're on about.

The official description of the part is "coolant regulator" - part no "1K0 121 113 A"

OMG you're a lifesaver. Honestly I cannot express how to thank you. Up till now mechanics, specialists and main dealers thought I was making it all up all along. I'll replace myself as I don't need them and in all honesty I've lost faith in them. I am not a mechanic but this seems like a good easy fix. I didn't want to dismantle to find the part number because I have to put it back together again just to take off again.

Honestly thanks a bunch!!

Plenty of people have written how to change it. I changed my own. Pls do a search on here. I had same issue once DSG stat changed all was fine.

That's handy to know. Any tips? Also if I don't change the thermostat in time will all the coolant leak out?

Try this

I did it myself took me an hour. I really took my time so I don't mess anything else up as I'm not good at these things. I am ever so proud and thankful to everyone 💗

  • 10 months later...

I had the same problem. The dsg "thermostat" is called a coolant regulator. I dont know why.

  • 5 months later...

Hi. Great forum. I have changed the DSG coolant regulator and it was perfect, dead on 90 for 2 x 25 mile drives, and was feeling smug!  Today it was back to the same trick, 65c max (-4c outside) even in stationary traffic. Am I looking at the main stat now on the side of the engine? 2014 2.0l diesel Superb DSG model
