Which oil for 2.0tdi vrs

Featured Replies

As the title says, which type oil would you recommend for this engine? 0w30 or 5w30 ? (both having 507.00 of course)

Also, is this oil any good?

I have always used 5w 30 longlife. I did not think you could use 0w 30 in the diesels. The last oil change I used Miller Oils and is really good and the engine is a lot quieter.

Pre 2018 it is VW 507 00 that is the recommended oil.

5w 30 FS III.

But 2018 on the cars left the factory with VW 509. So 0w 20 FS IV.  The choice is the owners if they ignore the recommendation from VW to use the oil they used for WLTP certification if the have a car under 3 years old.    So plenty VW508 00/ 509 00 threads on Briskoda for anyone to look for and read.

EDIT,

i can see now that the OP's car is a 2015 one, if that is the car being posted about.

VW504 00 / 507 00 being the Recommended oil so the 0w 30 FS III will be fine.

There are dealerships that have been using that at services with TSI's and TDI's that have left the factory with 0w 20 FS IV .

Dealer recommends Castrol Edge 5w30ll although they use Quantum 5w30 themselves for servicing.

Have used both. Quantum is usually available for about £20 for 5l enough for a full change. Castrol is often available on Amazon for £20 for 4l.

Not sure how the things are in Romania, but there are many fake duplicates of Castrol, Shell, even VAG oil and many others.

If it’s the same in your country, my recommendation is to use whatever you know it’s good and real.

Note that my Skoda dealer told me that they don’t offer OEM 5w30 507.00 oil anymore, only 0w30 with that spec. And offered me Shell or similar as aftermarket oil, but again it was 0w30 with 507.00 spec.

I think that it doesn’t matter much is it 0 or 5w if you don’t drive in a very cold country like Scandinavian ones.

The wear protection and ash content is almost the same between both in most cases.

Yeah, many fakes here too. I'm using Ravenol VMP. The question wasn't about brand but about viscosity actually. Since during the week I do lots of short trips, i wondered if the car could benefit from using 0w30 instead of 5w30.

I'm thinking of switching to this one RAVENOL VSW SAE 0W-30 | RAVENOL

0W 30 will flow better when cold as it is thinner than 5w 30. The 0 weight is more for conditions when air temp is below freezing and you need the oil to circulate. In hot weather you need a thicker oil as it will dissipate the heat better and is why VW chose 5W over 10W. 5W works well in both cold and warmer climates. If you are in a really hot country then 10W would be better.  All the oils will eventually go to 30W when hot but it is all about the warm up phase and what better protects the engine with the different oil weights.

Ravenol is a great oil - both VMP and VSW are good for your climate. But VMP provides better protection IMO. The HTHS is almost the same, but the TBN is almost 10% higher in VMP.

TBN gives an indication of the amount of base available in the oil to neutralize organic and inorganic acids that accumulate in the crankcase of diesel engines during their operation.

And last but not least, the VSW is more expensive than VMP.

As long as the oil meets the standard for VW507 oil, you are good, but agree that 0W30 oil is best and as OP posted an image for Longlife FEIII - this is good stuff.

Tbh, talking about oil price while driving a vRS is kinda odd to me 😆

vRS Derv burner.  Trim / spec really, sporty looks.  Oil fuel oil lubricant / coolant.   Really they are not that fussy what engine oil goes in as long as the correct spec.    Now if someone is tracking their TDI they might want to be more fussy.

I am using 5W30, changed every 5-6k (66 Plate)

It is worth checking the technical data sheets across products, some will be mid-saps and others are low-saps and I have seen higher ash content in cheaper brands.
