OK ... finally weather allowed me to do this job ....

Had a loan of a code reader so retracted the EPB fine.
Armed with M7 allen socket,  calliper pins came out  OK, calliper removed and old pads out ....
Then the failure .... the M12 'Triple square XZN'  bolts ..

but the M12 is simply far too loose  .... fully inserted you can give almost  a 1/4 turn, only tips seem to be engagging, it will round out the bolts.
The set comes with M12 standard and a M12 long reach - and both the same  ... far too loose.

Note these are M14 not M12

XZN-headed bolts have size descriptions that sound like thread-size descriptions (M5, M6, M8 etc.) but confusingly there isn't actually a 1:1 correlation between bolt thread size and the tool sizes that fit in the heads.

The two measuring systems on this page give alternative ways of determining which size XZN tool you need:

Yep ... I measured the thread .. M12 and then bought M12 tool  .... -wrong - they have the M14 head.     Even M14 does not measure as M14 .... its 13.5.    Be a lot better if they just used Hex head bolts.

Hi,

I have squeking on one side of rear brakes. Pads and discs still have life in them. Would I have enough space to remove/clean/lubricate the pads and refitting without the need of messing with the electronic brake?

Ryan

Yeah you can do that and sand the pad surface down till it's matt and the caliper will go back on easier.

Be careful though as some cars time out and apply the parking brake. Also if you open the door or spin the wheels the brake can come on.

Came off ok today with brake off. Cleaned up and copper creased contact points of pads to caliper and sqeaking has stopped🤞
