USB C port in rear view mirror.

Featured Replies

Hi, I’ve got an Octavia on order. I was wondering if there was any way to change the USB port in the rear view mirror to constant power? This is for using parking mode on a dash cam.
Thanks

I asked the dealer about it and it is not possible. The only solution will be rewiring the bunch to a constant i guess, but then doing that will probably have impact on your warranty.

I need a new dash cam as the battery is goosed in mine but would that be the option here? A dash cam with a decent battery so it can keep its own power while parked and then charges again while driving.  Unless this is for long term parking or something where it's not very viable.

Yeah don't see any alternative and with safety to turn off when low volatage. I won't be doing that so i won't use parking mode.

The battery in my nextbase cam lasts about 5 minutes, this seems to be the norm so it's unlikely you'll see one with a decent sized battery, I can't imagine it would be too safe in a window with direct sunlight either. You can buy external batteries that charge while you're driving and then power the cam when you park up but, they're usually quite pricey.

My cam is just wired straight to the fuse box and piggy backs on the 12v socket in the boot, relatively easy to remove the A pillar trim and route the cable.
