Westfalia detachable tow bar.

Featured Replies

I have just had a Wesfalia swan neck detachable tow bar fitted to my Kamiq. Not cheap but from past experience, having a tow bar fixed plays havoc with my shins. The Westfalia is really neat and there is no sign that there is a towing bracket fitted when the ball is detached. The extra info on the dash is good too.

Who fitted your new towbar? did they cut the rear skirt? photos if you have them, please

My Kamiq has the wiring pre fitted but after the struggle I had to get a towbar fitted to

the Fabia monte I like to know how easy or otherwise your fitting went.

It was supplied and fitted by Chester Towbars, https://www.chestertowbars.co.uk/. I dropped the car off at 1pm and collected it at 4.30pm the same day. Not the cheapest quote I got but well worth the extra. I don't know if they cut the hole underneath or it was a pop out piece. Whichever, it's very neat. You can just see the loop for the breakaway cable but the photo was taken at ground level so not that noticeable really.

I've used Chester Towbars twice, for my Mk 3 Octavias.  Same type of towbar.  Excellent work.

Only reason I haven't had one fitted on the Karoq is the price, I only use it for an occasional bike carrier and I can get two bikes in the car without removing the rear seats.  Which is good, because they weigh a ton.

Yeah thats the same one I had fitted when I first got mine.  Out of interest when you go into reverse do you get a continous beep?  The towbar is fine, I think mine was under £500 which wasn't bad for a removable towbar.

Thank you cestrian, that is a very neat installation indeed.

No, not a peep.

Weird mine makes a continuous, loud tone through the speakers.  Also makes a Beeping with indicating.  Not sure if I can fix this and the dealer who fitted it is down in the South of England so not able to go there.

Beeping when reversing (with the trailer plug connected) is a standard feature to meet the legal requirement which is either a visual or audible indication that the indicators are working on the towed vehicle, it's really to warn you in its absence that the plug has probably not been connected.

As JR says, the beeping is normal.

My local fitter quoted me two prices for fitting the same tow bar, one using Skoda specific wiring and the other using generic wiring. The quote using Skoda wiring was somewhat more expensive.

It sounds like your wiring has been done correctly but Cestrians hasn't.

I've had another look at mine. Still no beeping. With trailer/bike carrier plugged in rear sensors are deactivated. Selecting reverse shows a brief schematic of a trailer attached to the tow bar on the infotainment screen. Messages are displayed on the 'virtual cockpit' if there is a fault with any of the trailer bulbs. Indicators show an extra green flashing icon if the trailer indicator bulb is lighting up; no extra flashing icon if the bulb doesn't light up. Still no beeping. I guess it's complying with the regs in a different and quieter way.

That  sounds pretty good then, do you know whether specific or generic wiring was used ??

The fitters I used always use vehicle specific wiring kits.

👍

Interesting I don't get anything on either of the screens, just the loud continuous tone on reversing and the beeping with indicator use.

Did your fitter use Skoda specific wiring or generic ?

I have a trailer board with dodgy lights that I attached to the car's electrics and took some photos of the dash. They are self explanatory, I think. I tried to take a photo of the indicator repeaters flashing, but they kept going off. 😊
