Retrofit Cruise Control Skoda Fabia mk2 2007 1.4L 16v Manual Transmission.

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've seen a few threads on this forum discussing retrofitting cruise control and I'm looking for some advise on doing the same to my Fabia mk2 2007 1.4L 16v.

I watched a really helpful video of this being done to a 2006 Golf GTI:

1. VCDS was used to confirm the cruise control coding was accepted.

2. An aftermarket indicator stalk was fitted and then tested.

I've found various indicator stalks that claim to be compatible with my car.

I'm hoping all I need to do is:
1. Gain access to VCDS (I've seen your very helpful owners map 🙌)

2. Attempt to code the car for cruise control.

3. If this works, swap the indicator stalk for one with cruise control functions.

- Does anyone see any problems with my master plan?

- Is there anything I can check now without VCDS access to confirm this is possible on my vehicle?

- Is this all a pipe dream?

Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks, Wez.

I reckon tech1e will be able to help you here, being a former Skoda tech and that. :)

Amazing thanks,

I've seen @Tech1e's work first hand on other similar threads.

Hopefully I can entice them over to this one soon 🍰 🍺

On the MK2 Fabia you need to install a wiring harness and run it through to the engine control unit.

Also requires the correct central electrics control unit on the car to enable CC.

...and the switch you linked is for a MK1 not MK2.

Cruise control would be £240 supplied and fitted.

Hey thanks, and sorry for the blind tag.

I'm hoping to DIY this as much as possible.

Am I able to check what unit I have currently and if it will support cruise?

Are you able to link the correct part and or no. for a mk2?
The listing does have the mk2 specified under 'suitable vehicles' but I know these are not always correct.

Cheers, Wez.

Need to have a look up under the dash above the throttle pedal and see if the control unit (square black box) is labelled with a part number 6Q0 or 6Q1.

Various switches are available, it's not a one fits all. Need to work it out off your chassis number.

You can see the differences in the switches and why they are different.

Thanks for the pics, the one with wiper stalk attached deffo looks like the one in our car.

I think i'd seen another thread somewhere that suggested this new style only came in on later models 2012 or 2015+

more incorrect info 😫

I'll have a rummage under the dash soon to see what I can find on the control unit and let you know 👌

You will still need the wiring harness anyway.

Looks like i've got a 6Q1.

So next steps are..

- Get some new switches and wiring for the ECU?

- Find someone with VCDS to switch on cruise?

Just found this info on Ross-Tech’s wiki specifically about retro fitting cruise control with the different control module versions and what features they support.

Nothing we didn’t already know but nice as a reference.

Looks like there are a few connections i need from the 41-pin connector at the steering column switch to the main wiring harness:

  1. T41a/28 -> B279 (For Petrol Engines) (blue/red)
  2. T41a/26  -> B441 (white)
  3. T41a/29 -> B441 (white)

Then there are three back to the 6-pin connector at the onboard supply control unit, one with a diode.

  1. T41a/27 -> T6y/2 (blue/white)
  2. T41a/30 -> T6y/6 (blue/yellow)
  3. T41a/31 (blue/green) -> J29 Diode -> T6y/5 (black/red)

Questions:

  • Is this the correct diagram for my vehicle? and am I reading it correctly?
  • Where do the three connections heading for the main wiring harness (B279 & B441) connect to?, I can't see any pin designations.
  • At T41a/31 the diagram doesn't indicate what diode I need but should I just assume anything that can handle 12v?

@Tech1e having done this before, is this accurate? Anything I'm missing?

1 - Yes, that looks correct to me.

2 - they aren't terminals, they are a connection (node joint) inside the vehicle harness.

3 - Yes, I would presume so. I haven't made a loom myself for the MK2 before, I always bought them rather than mess around.

Back in the day I used to buy the kit that included everything, even fitting instructions.

now you have to be a bit clever, think laterally and you can make up a kit.

Thanks for all the pointers, this is really helpful 🙌

I have found some more switches that look like the ticket for your approval: https://www.autopartspro.co.uk/valeo-9382437

I've only found a loom for a mk1 so far, if it's similar I may be able to mod it tho it might be simple enough to just make one anyway.

  • Does that mean it needs to be spliced in to the loom?
  • Do you have a link to any guides you know of or exact splicing locations?
  • Any tips for where to look for looms to buy?

Thanks again.

Aha, the old Polo switcheroo.

Think I've traced where these can be connected at the ECU & Brake/Clutch pedal.

  • B441 -> T52a/24 (52-pin connector, at engine control unit)
  • B279 -> T4d/2 & T4h/2 (4-pin connector, at brake & clutch pedal switch)

The B279 node is a little confusing tho, Would make sense if it's just a shared power rail?

Maybe thats why it's "Positive connection 3 (15a) in main wiring harness"

Are these nodes easy to find under the bonnet, or would it be easier to make the connections at the pin connectors i've traced?

Just go straight to the engine ECU and the other is just an ignition live. You don’t need to worry about the nodes

Point of interest:

I've been calling around garages for quotes on cambelt + waterpump change as it's overdue and slightly out of my toolkit to complete.

I've been asking the same garages about making the small coding change to enable cruise.. they all seem to get a little flustered like it's not allowed? the last one said 'thats not something I've ever been asked to do before'.

@mushtafa I think you're my closest VCDS owner, do you still posses the kit and do you need some beer money? 😆 🙏

  • 2 weeks later...

I can't help you with the wiring, but I can confirm that it is possible to retrofit cc to mk2 fabia. I've done it on my 07 fabia. To be precise, I paid the man who specializes in retrofitting cc. Parts needed for my car was: new indicator stalk (it came from vw polo), ading few wires from body control unit to steering column, and adding one wire to ecu. Activation has been done, I think, with Delphi diagnostic tool.

Hey thanks for this, great to know it’s been done. Your list of requirements also matches the info I’ve gathered so far so this gives me confidence.

It looks like the re-coding part is now my main blocker, I’m confident I can get the replacement switches and make a small loom for the additional connections, however, I do now have access to VCDS-Lite and a third party cable that appears to work with my vehicle, many thanks to Wino and this thread.

Hm, I doubt you can do coding with Lite. I've bought that third-party cable and its very but very limited in diagnostic capabilities. But hey, try and you will see, maybe its doable 🤞

So far so good, I’ve been testing its capabilities to read soft coding, which Lite seems to be fine with. I’ve not tried any changes yet but the UI appears to allow it. Screenshots on this thread

Not going to make any changes yet till I can confirm the values I need for my modules.

About coding, all I can add is that the technician, who retrofit cc on my car, didn't struggle with coding at all, I've watched  what he's doing and, as I said he's been using Delphi tool, activation of cc was metter of just clicking ON in car functions menu. Sorry for my bad English, I'm trying to be precise as much as I could.

  • 4 years later...

@Tech1e Sorry to hop onto an old thread. Are you still providing parts and installing cc? I maybe interested ;)
