Can't find a thread on this and it's not mentioned in the Skoda as far as I can find. I get the 8 year warranty on the battery. But what about future upgrade/replacement? What's Skoda's intention here, are the batteries designed to be replaced if there is significant improvement in the tech, is that unrealistic given the battery cost vs vehicle cost, or what is the expected trajectory as Enyaks reach 80-120k on the clock, battery performance declines and newer battery tech might be available...?

Anything might be possible in the future. 

 

In 8 years VW Group likely to have gone too late into Hydrogen as the materials for batteries are all ready part of a shortage now in 2021.

I would fall off my chair in surprise if any such customer/environmentally friendly planning has happened.

They are designed to be swapped out if needed. Whether they change the battery size/chemistry over the life of the enyaq is just guessing.

The guarantee covers you if there is more than a 30% loss of capacity over the 8 years. Batteries degrade over time, and the management systems in the car, along with how you treat the battery (rarely go above 80%, don't use fast charges often, etc) decides how well the battery survives.

Tesla model s batteries have fared quite well over the years. Hopefully the enyaq will be similar. 

Plenty Taxi firms and fleets are running EV,s that are only rapid charging and have done for years now, some over millions of miles now across their fleet.   It is cells that fail and might need replacing.  Now there are specialists in the UK that replace cells or complete batteries.  Renault have shown the price of replacing batteries in the UK for a few years now.    People with early Nissan Leaf are putting in bigger capacity batteries.  There is a thread covering that in the Electric Car section on Briskoda.
